How Ultramed works

Ultramed 37.5mg/325mg Tablet is a combination of two medicines: Tramadol and Paracetamol which relieve severe pain. Tramadol is an opioid analgesic (pain reliever) which works by blocking the transmission of pain signals to the brain to lower pain perception. Paracetamol works by blocking the release of certain chemical messengers that cause pain.

Side effects of Ultramed

Most side effects of Ultramed are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

Warnings and precautions

Take it with or just after food, and for the shortest time that works. Stop and seek urgent care for black or tarry stools, vomiting blood, or severe stomach pain — this group can cause bleeding from the stomach. Long or high-dose use raises the risk of heart attack, stroke and kidney injury, particularly in older people and those already at risk. Avoid if you are dehydrated or have an illness with vomiting or loose motions — the kidneys are vulnerable then. Must be avoided in the last three months of pregnancy. This is an opioid painkiller. It can cause dependence, and should be taken only for the period your doctor has specified. Never combine it with alcohol, sleeping tablets or other sedatives — together they can dangerously slow your breathing. Do not stop a long course abruptly; your doctor will reduce it gradually. Tell your doctor if you have epilepsy or take an antidepressant — tramadol can lower the seizure threshold and can raise serotonin dangerously in combination. Never exceed the daily maximum printed on the pack. Paracetamol overdose damages the liver, and the damage can be silent for a day or two before it becomes serious. Check every other medicine you are taking. Paracetamol is in a very large number of cold, flu and pain combinations, and the doses add together. If you drink alcohol regularly, or have liver disease, ask your doctor what daily limit is safe for you. See a doctor if fever lasts more than three days, or pain more than five.

Do not take Ultramed if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for people with an active stomach ulcer, severe kidney or heart failure, or asthma triggered by aspirin or anti-inflammatory painkillers. Not in the third trimester of pregnancy. Not for people with severe liver disease, except under medical supervision.

Interactions with other medicines

Combining with a blood thinner or aspirin sharply raises the bleeding risk. Reduces the effect of blood pressure medicines and water tablets, and together with them can harm the kidneys. Never take two anti-inflammatory painkillers at the same time. Regular alcohol use increases the risk of liver injury. Tell your doctor if you are on warfarin — regular high-dose paracetamol can affect it.

Store below 30°C in the original pack, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep out of the reach of children.

Drink plenty of water and eat fiber-rich foods like fruits and vegetables to help prevent constipation, a common side effect of Ultramed 37.5mg/325mg Tablet. Do not drink alcohol while taking Ultramed 37.5mg/325mg Tablet. Alcohol combined with this medicine can cause extreme drowsiness or dangerously slow your breathing. During long-term treatment, your doctor may conduct regular blood tests to monitor your liver function. Inform your doctor if you have a history of heart disease, high blood pressure, liver disease, kidney disease, epilepsy, or any breathing problems before taking Ultramed 37.5mg/325mg Tablet. Do not stop taking Ultramed 37.5mg/325mg Tablet suddenly if you have been using it for more than a few days. Stopping it abruptly may lead to withdrawal symptoms such as anxiety, restlessness, sweating, insomnia, and gastrointestinal discomfort.
