Ursobile-450 mg Tablet contains Ursodeoxycholic Acid (150mg). It belongs to the Hydrophilic bile acid (choleretic; gallstone dissolution agent) class of medicines.

How Ursobile-450 mg Tablet works

Ursodeoxycholic acid is a hydrophilic bile acid that reduces cholesterol saturation in bile by decreasing hepatic cholesterol secretion and improving bile composition. It also promotes bile flow and has cytoprotective effects on bile duct and liver cells, helping improve cholestasis and liver enzyme abnormalities.

How to take Ursobile-450 mg Tablet

Tablet for oral use. Take exactly as prescribed, preferably with food or after meals to improve absorption and reduce stomach upset. Swallow whole with water; do not crush/chew unless advised. Dose and duration depend on indication (e.g., gallstones/PBC) and body weight.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Warnings and precautions

Use with caution in patients with severe liver disease, acute inflammation of gallbladder/bile ducts, or obstruction of the biliary tract. Not suitable for calcified or pigment gallstones and for non-functioning gallbladder. Monitor liver function tests periodically; ultrasound/assessment may be needed for gallstones. Seek medical help for severe abdominal pain, persistent diarrhoea, jaundice worsening, or allergic reactions.

Interactions with other medicines

Bile acid sequestrants (cholestyramine, colestipol) and antacids containing aluminium (e.g., aluminium hydroxide/smectite) reduce absorption; separate dosing by 2-4 hours. Oestrogens/oral contraceptives and lipid-lowering drugs like clofibrate may increase cholesterol in bile and reduce gallstone dissolution. May affect blood levels of ciclosporin; monitor if used together.

Store below 25°C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep in original blister pack and out of reach of children.

Take Ursobile 150mg Tablet after a meal with a glass of milk or water to help improve its absorption and reduce stomach upset. Take Ursobile 150mg Tablet regularly at the same time each day, as it works gradually and may take time to show beneficial results. Follow a healthy diet and exercise regularly, and avoid alcohol while taking Ursobile 150mg Tablet. Avoid heavy or oily meals, as high-fat foods may worsen gallbladder or liver-related symptoms. Diarrhea may occur as a side effect. Drink plenty of fluids, including oral rehydration solution (ORS), and inform your doctor if it persists or if you notice blood in your stools. Your doctor may monitor liver function tests and bilirubin levels regularly, especially during the first few months of the treatment. Seek medical advice promptly if you develop worsening jaundice, severe itching, dark urine, pale stools, persistent abdominal pain, or fever. Do not stop taking Ursobile 150mg Tablet without consulting your doctor, as liver conditions often require monitored and continuous therapy. Inform your doctor about all other medicines, herbal products, or supplements you are taking to avoid potential interactions.
