Composition of Vildaphage M Tablet

Vildaphage M Tablet contains Metformin (500mg) + Vildagliptin (50mg). It belongs to the DPP-4 inhibitor + Biguanide class of medicines.

Uses of Vildaphage M Tablet

Management of type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults to improve blood glucose control along with diet and exercise; used when metformin alone is inadequate or in patients already stabilized on vildagliptin and metformin.

How Vildaphage M Tablet works

Vildagliptin is a DPP-4 inhibitor that increases incretin hormones (GLP-1, GIP), enhancing glucose-dependent insulin release and reducing glucagon secretion. Metformin reduces hepatic glucose production and improves insulin sensitivity, thereby lowering blood glucose.

How to take Vildaphage M Tablet

Tablet for oral use. Take as prescribed, usually with food to reduce stomach upset. Swallow whole (do not crush/chew if modified release). Maintain regular timing; monitor blood glucose as advised.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

If you miss a dose of Vildaphage-M Tablet, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can cause a dangerous build-up of acid in the blood, with vomiting, severe weakness and laboured breathing. It may cause low blood sugar, particularly if you also take other diabetes medicines. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Side effects of Vildaphage M Tablet

Most side effects of Vildaphage M are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

• Nausea
• vomiting
• diarrhea
• abdominal discomfort
• loss of appetite
• headache
• dizziness
• upper respiratory tract infection
• hypoglycaemia (especially with other antidiabetics)
• metallic taste

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Safety advice for Vildaphage M Tablet

Warnings and precautions

Not for type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis. Metformin may rarely cause lactic acidosis—risk increased with kidney disease, dehydration, severe infection, liver disease, heart failure, heavy alcohol use; stop and seek care if rapid breathing, severe weakness, abdominal pain, or unusual sleepiness occur. Assess renal function before and during therapy; dose adjustment/avoid in significant renal impairment. Vildagliptin can affect liver enzymes—periodic LFT monitoring recommended; stop if jaundice or persistent elevations occur. Temporarily withhold metformin around iodinated contrast procedures or major surgery as advised by a doctor.

Do not take Vildaphage M if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for people with severe kidney disease, severe liver disease, or an acute illness causing dehydration. Not for people who have had diabetic ketoacidosis. Not for type 1 diabetes or for diabetic ketoacidosis.

Interactions with other medicines

Alcohol, iodinated contrast media, insulin/sulfonylureas (increased hypoglycaemia risk), ACE inhibitors (may increase hypoglycaemia risk), corticosteroids (may raise glucose), thiazide/loop diuretics (may raise glucose or worsen dehydration/renal function), cimetidine (may increase metformin levels), carbonic anhydrase inhibitors like topiramate/acetazolamide (may increase acidosis risk)

Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place. Protect from moisture and light. Keep out of reach of children.

Expert advice for Vildaphage M Tablet

Take it in addition to regular exercise and a healthy diet to lower levels of blood sugar. Take it with food to lower your chance of having an upset stomach. Inform your doctor about your diabetes treatment if you are due to have surgery under a general anesthetic. Tell your doctor immediately if you experience any deep or rapid breathing, persistent nausea, vomiting, and stomach pain, as Vildaphage-M Tablet may cause a rare but serious condition called lactic acidosis, which is an excess of lactic acid in the blood. Your doctor may check your kidney and liver function before starting treatment and regularly thereafter. Inform your doctor if you develop symptoms such as abdominal pain, fatigue, loss of appetite, darkened urine, or yellowing of the eyes or skin (jaundice).
