Vildagliptin 50 mg + Metformin hydrochloride 1000 mg
Type 2 diabetes mellitus (adult) to improve blood glucose control, especially when diet/exercise and metformin or vildagliptin alone are inadequate
Vildagliptin is a DPP-4 inhibitor that increases incretin hormones (GLP-1, GIP), enhancing glucose-dependent insulin release and reducing glucagon. Metformin lowers hepatic glucose production and improves insulin sensitivity, reducing intestinal glucose absorption.
Tablet for oral use. Take as prescribed, usually with meals to reduce stomach upset. Swallow whole with water; do not crush/chew unless advised. Follow diet and exercise advice and monitor blood glucose regularly.

Not for type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis. Metformin may rarely cause lactic acidosis—risk increases with kidney impairment, dehydration, severe infection, shock, excessive alcohol intake, and hypoxia; stop and seek care if rapid breathing, severe weakness, abdominal pain, or drowsiness occur. Avoid/contraindicated in severe renal impairment; assess eGFR before and during therapy. Use caution in liver disease; vildagliptin can affect liver enzymes—periodic LFT monitoring recommended. Temporarily stop metformin around iodinated contrast procedures and major surgery as advised. Monitor for pancreatitis symptoms (severe abdominal pain) and hypersensitivity reactions.
