Composition of Voglistar GM2 Tablet

Voglistar GM2 Tablet contains Voglibose 0.2 mg + Metformin Hydrochloride 500 mg (as sustained release) + Glimepiride 2 mg. It belongs to the Alpha-glucosidase inhibitor + Biguanide + Sulfonylurea class of medicines.

How Voglistar GM2 Tablet works

Voglibose inhibits intestinal alpha‑glucosidase enzymes, delaying carbohydrate digestion and reducing post‑meal blood glucose spikes. Metformin decreases hepatic glucose production and improves insulin sensitivity. Glimepiride stimulates insulin release from pancreatic beta cells to lower blood glucose.

How to take Voglistar GM2 Tablet

Tablet (oral). Take exactly as prescribed, usually once daily with the first main meal; swallow whole with water (do not crush/chew as it contains sustained‑release metformin). Follow diet/exercise advice and monitor blood glucose regularly.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

Take it as soon as you remember. If your next dose is almost due, skip the one you missed — never take two doses together to catch up.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine may cause low blood sugar and marked stomach upset. It can cause a dangerous build-up of acid in the blood, with vomiting, severe weakness and laboured breathing. It can cause severe and prolonged low blood sugar, which may lead to fits or unconsciousness. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Side effects of Voglistar GM2 Tablet

Most side effects of Voglistar GM2 are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

• Hypoglycaemia
• nausea
• vomiting
• diarrhoea
• abdominal pain
• flatulence
• loss of appetite
• headache
• dizziness
• metallic taste

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Safety advice for Voglistar GM2 Tablet

Warnings and precautions

Risk of hypoglycaemia (more likely with missed meals, excess exercise, alcohol, or with other antidiabetics); carry glucose/sugar. Metformin may rarely cause lactic acidosis—seek urgent care for fast breathing, severe weakness, abdominal pain, or drowsiness; higher risk with kidney/liver impairment, dehydration, severe infection, or excessive alcohol. Avoid/consult doctor if severe renal impairment; kidney function monitoring recommended. Temporarily stop metformin before/after iodinated contrast procedures or major surgery as advised. Use caution in elderly and in patients with G6PD deficiency (risk of hemolysis with sulfonylureas).

Do not take Voglistar GM2 if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for type 1 diabetes or for diabetic ketoacidosis. Not for people with heart failure, active bladder cancer or unexplained blood in the urine. Not for people with severe kidney disease, severe liver disease, or an acute illness causing dehydration. Not for people who have had diabetic ketoacidosis. Not for people with severe kidney or liver disease.

Interactions with other medicines

Insulin/other antidiabetics (increased hypoglycaemia), alcohol (increased hypoglycaemia and lactic acidosis risk), iodinated contrast media (lactic acidosis risk), diuretics and ACE inhibitors/ARBs (may alter glucose and affect renal function), corticosteroids and thiazides (may raise glucose), beta‑blockers (may mask hypoglycaemia symptoms), cimetidine (may increase metformin levels)

How to store Voglistar GM2 Tablet

Store below 25°C, protected from light and moisture. Keep in original blister pack and out of reach of children.

Expert advice for Voglistar GM2 Tablet

Take it with the first mouthful of your meal so it can act on that meal. Expect some wind in the first weeks; it usually settles. Take it with or just after food to reduce stomach upset. Keep taking it even when your sugar readings look normal — that is the medicine working. Continue your diet and physical activity; this medicine works alongside them, not instead of them. Take it shortly before a meal, and eat that meal. Check your sugar as often as your doctor has asked, especially when your routine changes.
