Voglistar Plus 0.3 Tablet contains Voglibose 0.3 mg + Metformin Hydrochloride 500 mg (sustained/extended release) tablet. It belongs to the Alpha-glucosidase inhibitor + Biguanide class of medicines.

Type 2 diabetes mellitus: to improve glycaemic control in adults when diet and exercise alone or monotherapy is inadequate; helps control post-meal (postprandial) and fasting blood glucose

How Voglistar Plus 0.3 Tablet works

Voglibose inhibits intestinal alpha‑glucosidase enzymes, delaying digestion and absorption of carbohydrates and reducing post‑meal glucose spikes. Metformin decreases hepatic glucose production and improves insulin sensitivity, leading to better overall blood sugar control.

How to take Voglistar Plus 0.3 Tablet

Oral tablet. Take exactly as prescribed, usually with meals. Voglibose works best when taken at the start of a main meal. Swallow whole (do not crush/chew if SR/ER). Follow diet and exercise advice and monitor blood glucose regularly.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

Take it as soon as you remember. If your next dose is almost due, skip the one you missed — never take two doses together to catch up.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine may cause low blood sugar and marked stomach upset. It can cause a dangerous build-up of acid in the blood, with vomiting, severe weakness and laboured breathing. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Side effects of Voglistar Plus 0.3 Tablet

Most side effects of Voglistar Plus are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

• Flatulence
• abdominal discomfort
• diarrhoea
• nausea
• vomiting
• loss of appetite
• metallic taste
• headache

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Safety advice for Voglistar Plus 0.3 Tablet

Warnings and precautions

Prescription-only antidiabetic. Risk of hypoglycaemia increases if used with insulin or sulfonylureas (carry glucose). Metformin may rarely cause lactic acidosis—seek urgent care for rapid breathing, severe weakness, abdominal pain, drowsiness. Avoid/use with caution in kidney impairment; dose adjustment/monitoring required and generally avoid in severe renal disease. Use caution in liver disease, dehydration, severe infection, shock, heavy alcohol use. Temporarily stop metformin before/after iodinated contrast procedures and major surgery as advised by doctor. Long-term metformin may reduce vitamin B12—monitor if anaemia/neuropathy symptoms.

Do not take Voglistar Plus if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for type 1 diabetes or for diabetic ketoacidosis. Not for people with heart failure, active bladder cancer or unexplained blood in the urine. Not for people with severe kidney disease, severe liver disease, or an acute illness causing dehydration. Not for people who have had diabetic ketoacidosis.

Interactions with other medicines

Insulin, sulfonylureas/meglitinides (hypoglycaemia risk), alcohol (lactic acidosis risk), iodinated contrast media (kidney injury/lactic acidosis risk), carbonic anhydrase inhibitors e.g. topiramate/acetazolamide (metabolic acidosis risk), cimetidine (increases metformin levels), diuretics/ACE inhibitors/NSAIDs (may affect kidney function), corticosteroids and thiazide diuretics (may raise glucose), beta-blockers (mask hypoglycaemia symptoms)

How to store Voglistar Plus 0.3 Tablet

Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place. Protect from moisture and direct light. Keep in original blister pack and out of reach of children.

Expert advice for Voglistar Plus 0.3 Tablet

Take it with the first mouthful of your meal so it can act on that meal. Expect some wind in the first weeks; it usually settles. Take it with or just after food to reduce stomach upset. Keep taking it even when your sugar readings look normal — that is the medicine working. Continue your diet and physical activity; this medicine works alongside them, not instead of them.
