Ofloxacin is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic. It inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, blocking DNA replication and leading to bacterial death.
Take by mouth once daily or as prescribed. Swallow whole; do not crush/chew (OD/ER tablet). Can be taken with or without food; take at the same time each day. Avoid taking with milk/antacids/iron/calcium/zinc within 2 hours before or after the dose.

Use only for bacterial infections; not effective for viral illness. Stop and seek medical help if tendon pain/swelling, severe diarrhoea, allergic reaction, numbness/tingling, seizures, or severe mood changes occur (fluoroquinolone class risks: tendinitis/tendon rupture, peripheral neuropathy, CNS effects). Use with caution in elderly, kidney disease (dose adjustment may be needed), epilepsy/seizure disorders, myasthenia gravis (may worsen weakness), and patients with QT prolongation/heart rhythm disorders. Avoid excessive sunlight/UV exposure (photosensitivity). Complete the full course; do not self-medicate.
