How Zanocin OD 400 mg works

Ofloxacin is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic. It inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, blocking DNA replication and leading to bacterial death.

How to take Zanocin OD 400 mg

Take by mouth once daily or as prescribed. Swallow whole; do not crush/chew (OD/ER tablet). Can be taken with or without food; take at the same time each day. Avoid taking with milk/antacids/iron/calcium/zinc within 2 hours before or after the dose.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

If you miss a dose of Zanocin OZ Tablet, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

If you take too much

Taking more Zanocin OD than prescribed can be harmful. If you suspect an overdose, contact a doctor or go to the nearest emergency department at once, and carry the pack or strip with you. In India the emergency number is 112.

Side effects of Zanocin OD 400 mg

Most side effects of Zanocin OD are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

• insomnia
• skin rash

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Warnings and precautions

Use only for bacterial infections; not effective for viral illness. Stop and seek medical help if tendon pain/swelling, severe diarrhoea, allergic reaction, numbness/tingling, seizures, or severe mood changes occur (fluoroquinolone class risks: tendinitis/tendon rupture, peripheral neuropathy, CNS effects). Use with caution in elderly, kidney disease (dose adjustment may be needed), epilepsy/seizure disorders, myasthenia gravis (may worsen weakness), and patients with QT prolongation/heart rhythm disorders. Avoid excessive sunlight/UV exposure (photosensitivity). Complete the full course; do not self-medicate.

Interactions with other medicines

Antacids containing aluminium/magnesium,sucralfate,iron salts,zinc/calcium supplements (reduced absorption),warfarin/other anticoagulants (increased bleeding risk),antiarrhythmics/QT-prolonging drugs (e.g. amiodarone,sotalol,macrolides,antipsychotics),NSAIDs (increased seizure risk),corticosteroids (increased tendon rupture risk),antidiabetic drugs (risk of hypo/hyperglycaemia)

Complete the full course of Zanocin OZ Tablet exactly as advised, even if you start feeling better. Take Zanocin OZ Tablet with water and maintain adequate hydration, especially if diarrhea is present. Avoid alcohol while taking Zanocin OZ Tablet and for some time after completing the course, as it may cause severe reactions and worsen side effects. Avoid taking antacids or mineral supplements close to the dose of Zanocin OZ Tablet unless advised by your doctor, as they may reduce its absorption. Seek medical advice if you develop severe diarrhea, bloody stools, or high fever. Stop taking Zanocin OZ Tablet and seek medical help if you develop rash, swelling, breathing difficulty, or signs of allergic reaction. Inform your doctor if you have kidney disease, seizures, or heart rhythm problems before taking Zanocin OZ Tablet. Report symptoms such as tendon pain, numbness, tingling, palpitations, or severe dizziness promptly. Consult your doctor if symptoms do not improve within 2–3 days of starting Zanocin OZ Tablet. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding before taking Zanocin OZ Tablet.
