Medically reviewed by Dr. Balaji Krishnan, MBBS · Updated August 2026
Zanocin DS 400 mg contains Ofloxacin 400 mg. It belongs to the Fluoroquinolone antibiotic class of medicines.
Ofloxacin is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic that inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV. This blocks DNA replication and repair, leading to bacterial cell death.
Oral tablet. Take exactly as prescribed by the doctor; commonly taken once or twice daily with water. Can be taken with or without food, but avoid taking with milk/dairy, antacids or iron/calcium/zinc supplements within 2 hours before or after the dose. Complete the full course.
Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.
Take the missed dose of Zanocin DS as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one and carry on with the usual schedule. Do not take two doses together to make up for a missed dose.
Taking more Zanocin DS than prescribed can be harmful. If you suspect an overdose, contact a doctor or go to the nearest emergency department at once, and carry the pack or strip with you. In India the emergency number is 112.
