Zipod 50 Dry Syrup contains Cefpodoxime Proxetil (50mg/5ml). It belongs to the Third-generation cephalosporin (beta-lactam antibiotic) class of medicines.

How Zipod 50 Dry Syrup works

Side effects of Zipod 50 Dry Syrup

Most side effects of Zipod are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

• urticaria
• oral/vaginal candidiasis

Warnings and precautions

Prescription-only antibiotic; use only for bacterial infections. Do not use in patients with allergy to cefpodoxime/cephalosporins; caution in penicillin allergy. Use with caution in kidney disease (dose adjustment may be needed). Seek medical help for severe/persistent diarrhoea (risk of C. difficile), severe rash, facial swelling or breathing difficulty. Prolonged use may cause superinfection. Inform doctor if there is a history of colitis or seizures.

Interactions with other medicines

Antacids and H2 blockers (may reduce absorption), probenecid (may increase levels), anticoagulants like warfarin (may increase bleeding risk/INR), other nephrotoxic drugs (increased kidney risk), live bacterial vaccines (e.g., oral typhoid) may be less effective

How to store Zipod 50 Dry Syrup

Store dry powder in a cool, dry place below 25°C, protected from moisture and light. After reconstitution, store as per label (commonly in a refrigerator 2–8°C) and use within the recommended period; do not freeze; keep cap tightly closed.

Expert advice for Zipod 50 Dry Syrup

Your child must complete the entire course of antibiotics. Stopping too soon may cause the bacteria to multiply again, become resistant, or cause another infection. Give this medicine with food to avoid an upset stomach. Encourage your child to drink plenty of water in case diarrhea develops as a side effect. Conditions like common cold and flu are caused by viruses. Never use this medicine for such conditions. Only give Zipod 50 Dry Syrup to your child for their current infection. Never save medicine for future illnesses. Stop this medicine and immediately report to your child’s doctor in case your child develops an itchy rash, facial swelling, or breathing difficulties while taking this medicine. Your doctor has prescribed Zipod 50 Dry Syrup to cure your infection and improve your symptoms. Do not skip any doses and finish the full course of treatment even if you feel better. Stopping it early may make the infection harder to treat. Take it with food to avoid an upset stomach. Diarrhea may occur as a side effect but should stop when your course is complete. Inform your doctor if it does not stop or if you find blood in your stools. Avoid consuming alcohol while taking Zipod 50 Dry Syrup as it may cause increased side effects. Discontinue Zipod 50 Dry Syrup and inform your doctor immediately if you get a rash, itchy skin, swelling of face and mouth, or have difficulty in breathing.
