Zomelis Dm 500 mg Tablet contains Metformin hydrochloride 500 mg (as modified-release/extended-release). It belongs to the Biguanide class of medicines.

How Zomelis Dm 500 mg Tablet works

Metformin reduces glucose production in the liver and decreases intestinal glucose absorption. It also improves insulin sensitivity, helping the body use insulin more effectively and lowering blood sugar without usually causing hypoglycaemia when used alone.

How to take Zomelis Dm 500 mg Tablet

Oral tablet. Take exactly as prescribed, preferably with meals to reduce stomach upset. Swallow whole; do not crush or chew (especially if modified/extended-release). Dose is individualized based on blood sugar and tolerability.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

Take the missed dose of Zomelis Dm as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one and carry on with the usual schedule. Do not take two doses together to make up for a missed dose.

If you take too much

Taking more Zomelis Dm than prescribed can be harmful. If you suspect an overdose, contact a doctor or go to the nearest emergency department at once, and carry the pack or strip with you. In India the emergency number is 112.

Side effects of Zomelis Dm 500 mg Tablet

Most side effects of Zomelis Dm are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

• metallic taste
• headache
• vitamin B12 deficiency (long-term)

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Safety advice for Zomelis Dm 500 mg Tablet

Warnings and precautions

Not for type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis. Risk of lactic acidosis (rare but serious)—higher in severe kidney disease, severe liver disease, alcohol misuse, dehydration, severe infection, hypoxia/heart failure. Kidney function should be checked before and during therapy; dose adjustment/avoid in renal impairment as per doctor. Temporarily stop before iodinated contrast procedures and major surgery as advised. Monitor for vitamin B12 deficiency with long-term use. Seek care if you develop deep/rapid breathing, persistent vomiting, severe weakness, abdominal pain, or unusual sleepiness.

Interactions with other medicines

Alcohol, iodinated contrast media, carbonic anhydrase inhibitors (e.g., topiramate, acetazolamide), cimetidine, diuretics, corticosteroids, thyroid hormones, sympathomimetics, other antidiabetics/insulin (may increase risk of low blood sugar when combined)
