Metformin hydrochloride 500 mg (as modified-release/extended-release)
Management of type 2 diabetes mellitus to improve glycaemic control, especially in overweight patients; may be used alone or with other antidiabetic medicines/insulin as prescribed.
Metformin reduces glucose production in the liver and decreases intestinal glucose absorption. It also improves insulin sensitivity, helping the body use insulin more effectively and lowering blood sugar without usually causing hypoglycaemia when used alone.
Oral tablet. Take exactly as prescribed, preferably with meals to reduce stomach upset. Swallow whole; do not crush or chew (especially if modified/extended-release). Dose is individualized based on blood sugar and tolerability.
