Sodium Hyaluronate injection (strength per vial not specified)
Management of pain and improved mobility in osteoarthritis of the knee (viscosupplementation); may be used for other synovial joint osteoarthritis as advised by a specialist.
Sodium hyaluronate is a natural component of synovial fluid. In osteoarthritis, the quality and quantity of hyaluronic acid in the joint decreases; injecting it helps restore viscoelasticity, improves lubrication and shock absorption, and reduces pain and stiffness.
For intra-articular use only, administered by a trained healthcare professional under aseptic conditions. Dose and schedule depend on product strength and clinician advice (commonly given as a course of injections at weekly intervals). Do not inject intravenously or into infected/inflamed skin areas; rest the joint after injection as advised.
Common side effects of ZYVISC INJ may include:
Prescription-only; must be injected into the joint by a healthcare professional. Avoid use in patients with hypersensitivity to hyaluronate or any component; caution in patients with allergy to avian proteins/feathers/eggs if product is avian-derived (check label). Do not use in infected joint, skin infections at the injection site, or severe joint inflammation due to infection. Temporary worsening of pain/swelling can occur; seek care for severe pain, fever, marked swelling, or signs of infection. Use with caution in pregnancy/breastfeeding due to limited data.
