Used as a topical ocular local anaesthetic to numb the eye before diagnostic or minor surgical procedures (e.g., tonometry, gonioscopy, removal of superficial foreign body).
Topical local anaesthetics block sodium channels in nerve endings on the ocular surface. This prevents nerve impulse conduction and temporarily numbs the cornea and conjunctiva.
For ophthalmic use only. Instill the prescribed number of drops into the affected eye(s) just before the procedure as directed by an ophthalmologist. Do not use regularly or for self-treatment; avoid touching the dropper tip; remove contact lenses unless advised otherwise.
Transient burning/stinging, eye irritation, redness, watery eyes, blurred vision, allergic reaction
To be used only under medical supervision for procedures; prolonged/repeated use can damage cornea and delay healing. Do not rub the eye while numb (risk of injury). Avoid use in known hypersensitivity to local anaesthetics. Seek care if severe pain, persistent redness, vision changes, or swelling occurs.
Other topical ophthalmic medicines (use spacing if co-administered), drugs/agents containing similar local anaesthetics (potential additive effects)
Store below 25°C, protect from light, keep container tightly closed. Do not freeze. Discard as per label after opening; do not use if solution changes colour or becomes cloudy.
