Treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure); helps reduce risk of cardiovascular complications such as stroke and heart attack when BP is controlled.

Benidipine is a dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker. It relaxes blood vessels by inhibiting calcium entry into vascular smooth muscle (and has multi-channel blocking activity on L-, N- and T-type calcium channels), lowering peripheral resistance and blood pressure.

Take as prescribed by the physician. Usually taken once daily at the same time each day, with or without food; swallow tablet whole with water. Do not stop abruptly without medical advice.

Monitor blood pressure regularly. Use with caution in liver impairment, severe aortic stenosis, heart failure, or low blood pressure. May cause dizziness—avoid driving/operating machinery if affected. Inform doctor if swelling of feet/ankles is troublesome. Not a substitute for lifestyle measures (diet, exercise, salt restriction).

Other antihypertensives (additive BP lowering),beta-blockers,diuretics,CYP3A4 inhibitors (e.g., clarithromycin, ketoconazole, ritonavir) may increase levels,grapefruit juice may increase levels,CYP3A4 inducers (e.g., rifampicin, carbamazepine, phenytoin) may reduce effect
