Betacap Plus 10 is a prescription medicine containing Propranolol (40mg) + Flunarizine (10mg). It is used for migraine. It belongs to the group of medicines called Beta blocker and Central nervous system agent.
Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. The dose and how long you take it depend on what you are being treated for and how you respond. Do not take more, or for longer, than your doctor has advised.
The side effects seen most often with Betacap Plus 10 are tiredness, cold hands and feet, slow pulse and dizziness. Most are mild and settle as the body gets used to the medicine. Tell your doctor if one persists or worries you.
Before you start, tell your doctor about any liver, kidney or heart problem, whether you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding, and every other medicine you take, including supplements and ayurvedic preparations. Some of them can change how Betacap Plus 10 works.
Prevention of Migraine
Most side effects of Betacap Plus are mild and settle as the body gets used to the medicine. The ones reported most often are:
Stop the medicine and get help at once for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.
Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Betacap Plus 10 Capsule SR may be taken with or without food.
Betacap Plus 10 Capsule SR is a combination of two medicines: propranolol and flunarizine. Propranolol is a beta blocker, and flunarizine is a calcium channel blocker. They work together by stabilizing the reactive nerve cells and increasing the threshold for migraine activation. Flunarizine also helps in inhibiting cortical spreading depression (CSD—electric waves that move across the brain and cause pain and inflammation).
Never stop this medicine suddenly. Stopping abruptly can cause a sharp rise in blood pressure, worsening chest pain or a heart attack — your doctor will reduce it gradually. Tell your doctor if you have asthma or long-standing lung disease; this group can tighten the airways. If you have diabetes, be aware that this medicine can mask the early warning signs of low blood sugar, apart from sweating. Report a resting pulse that is persistently very slow, or fainting. Do not stop this medicine suddenly without asking your doctor. This medicine causes drowsiness. Do not drive or operate machinery until you know how it affects you. Report any change in mood, sleep or behaviour.
If you miss a dose of Betacap Plus 10 Capsule SR, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.
An overdose of this medicine can cause a dangerously slow heartbeat, a severe fall in blood pressure, wheezing and fits. It can cause deep drowsiness, confusion and fits. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.
Store below 30°C in the original pack, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep out of the reach of children.
