Monograph
Tablet
Treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure), management of angina (chest pain) due to coronary artery disease; may be used in stable chronic heart failure as per physician advice and appropriate regimen.
Bisoprolol is a cardioselective beta-1 adrenergic blocker. It reduces heart rate and the force of contraction, lowering blood pressure and myocardial oxygen demand, thereby helping control angina and reducing cardiac workload.
Take orally as prescribed, usually once daily at the same time each day. May be taken with or without food; swallow with water. Do not stop suddenly without medical advice; dose may need gradual tapering.
Bradycardia, dizziness, fatigue, headache, cold hands/feet, nausea, diarrhea, sleep disturbances
Use with caution in asthma/COPD (may worsen bronchospasm), diabetes (can mask hypoglycemia symptoms), thyroid disorders (can mask hyperthyroidism), peripheral vascular disease, and history of severe allergic reactions. Contraindicated/avoid in severe bradycardia, heart block (2nd/3rd degree) without pacemaker, cardiogenic shock, and acute decompensated heart failure. Monitor pulse and blood pressure; seek care for fainting, wheeze, or worsening shortness of breath. Do not discontinue abruptly (risk of rebound angina/MI).
Other antihypertensives (additive hypotension), verapamil/diltiazem (risk of bradycardia/heart block), digoxin (bradycardia), amiodarone/antiarrhythmics (conduction disturbances), clonidine (rebound hypertension if stopped abruptly), insulin/oral antidiabetics (mask hypoglycemia), NSAIDs (may reduce antihypertensive effect), rifampicin (may reduce levels), sympathomimetics like salbutamol (reduced bronchodilation effect)
Store at room temperature below 25°C, in a dry place, protected from moisture and light. Keep in original packaging and out of reach of children.
