Nebicard 5 mg Tablet is a prescription medicine containing Nebivolol 5 mg (as nebivolol hydrochloride) tablet. It is used for hypertension (high blood pressure).
Take as prescribed by a doctor, usually once daily at the same time each day, with or without food. The dose and how long you take it depend on what you are being treated for and how you respond. Do not take more, or for longer, than your doctor has advised.
The side effects seen most often with Nebicard 5 mg Tablet are headache, dizziness, fatigue and slow heart rate (bradycardia). Most are mild and settle as the body gets used to the medicine. Tell your doctor if one persists or worries you.
Before you start, tell your doctor about any liver, kidney or heart problem, whether you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding, and every other medicine you take, including supplements and ayurvedic preparations. Some of them can change how Nebicard 5 mg Tablet works.
Treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure); helps reduce risk of cardiovascular events related to uncontrolled BP (as part of overall management).
Most side effects of Nebicard are mild and settle as the body gets used to the medicine. The ones reported most often are:
Stop the medicine and get help at once for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.
Take as prescribed by a doctor, usually once daily at the same time each day, with or without food. Swallow the tablet with water; do not stop suddenly without medical advice.
Nebivolol is a cardioselective beta-1 blocker that reduces heart rate and cardiac output, lowering blood pressure. It also enhances nitric oxide–mediated vasodilation, helping relax blood vessels.
Do not stop abruptly (may worsen angina/trigger heart problems). Use with caution in asthma/COPD, diabetes (may mask low sugar symptoms), thyroid disorders, peripheral vascular disease, and in elderly. Contraindicated/caution in severe bradycardia, heart block, cardiogenic shock, severe heart failure not stabilized, and severe liver impairment. Monitor blood pressure and pulse regularly.
Take it as soon as you remember. If your next dose is almost due, skip the one you missed — never take two doses together to catch up.
An overdose of this medicine can cause a dangerously slow heartbeat, a severe fall in blood pressure, wheezing and fits. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.
Other antihypertensives (additive BP lowering),verapamil/diltiazem (risk of bradycardia/heart block),digoxin (bradycardia/AV block),antiarrhythmics like amiodarone (conduction effects),clonidine (rebound hypertension if stopped),NSAIDs (may reduce antihypertensive effect),CYP2D6 inhibitors such as fluoxetine/paroxetine/quinidine (may increase nebivolol levels)
