High cholesterol (hypercholesterolaemia), mixed dyslipidaemia, high triglycerides (as adjunct), prevention of cardiovascular events (heart attack, stroke) in at‑risk patients

Rosuvastatin is a statin that inhibits HMG‑CoA reductase, the key enzyme needed for cholesterol synthesis in the liver. This lowers LDL (“bad”) cholesterol and triglycerides and modestly raises HDL (“good”) cholesterol, reducing plaque build‑up and cardiovascular risk.

Tablet for oral use. Take once daily at the same time each day, with or without food, as prescribed. Continue diet and exercise; do not stop without medical advice.

Headache, muscle pain, weakness, abdominal pain, nausea, constipation, dizziness, increased liver enzymes

Prescription medicine. Risk of muscle injury (myopathy/rhabdomyolysis)—seek help for unexplained muscle pain/weakness especially with fever or dark urine. Monitor liver function; avoid use in active liver disease. Use caution in kidney impairment, hypothyroidism, elderly, heavy alcohol use, and those with history of muscle disorders. Not recommended in pregnancy or breastfeeding.

Cyclosporine, gemfibrozil/other fibrates, niacin (high dose), protease inhibitors (e.g., lopinavir/ritonavir, atazanavir), warfarin (INR may change), ezetimibe, antacids containing aluminium/magnesium (reduce absorption; separate dosing), colchicine

Store below 25°C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
