Online doctor for eczema

Dry, itchy patches in the elbow folds, on the hands or behind the knees, scratched until they ooze, better for a week and back again. Send photos and the names of the creams you have tried. A doctor confirms whether it is eczema and plans how to calm it and keep it away; skin cases go first to our doctor trained in cosmetic dermatology.

Online consultation for eczema

Eczema (atopic dermatitis) is long-lasting dry, itchy, inflamed skin that comes and goes in flares. It is not contagious. It is controlled, not cured: a moisturiser every day, the right strength of anti-inflammatory cream for a short time during a flare, and avoiding what sets it off.

An online consult can help with

  • Itchy, dry or cracked patches that keep coming back
  • Hand eczema from water, detergents or work
  • Eczema in a child (a parent books and joins the chat)
  • A steroid cream that worked once and no longer does
  • Itch that keeps you awake at night

See a doctor in person if

  • Trouble breathing, chest pain, fainting, confusion or a seizure: go to the nearest emergency department or call 108.
  • Eczema that suddenly becomes painful, with clusters of small punched-out sores or blisters, especially with fever: this can be a herpes infection and needs to be seen today
  • Yellow crusts, pus, fever or red skin that is spreading
  • Red, scaly skin over most of the body, with chills
  • Swelling of the lips, eyes or face, or hives with difficulty breathing

How an online consultation works

  1. 1

Tell the doctor what is wrong

A few short questions, about two minutes. Add photos or reports if you have them.

  2. 2

    Pay. The chat opens.

Chat from ₹199. A doctor usually replies within 30 minutes. The doctor can switch to video if needed; some prescription medicines need a short video call first.

  3. 3

    A plan, in writing

What it is likely to be, what to take and what to avoid. A prescription where appropriate, and 48 hours of follow-up questions in the same chat.

  4. 4

    Tests at home, if needed

Book any test the doctor suggests with home sample collection where available, and share the report in the same chat within the 48 hours.

What the doctor may do

  • Confirm from your photos whether it is eczema, a fungal infection or an allergy
  • Plan daily moisturising and bathing, with soap-free washes
  • Prescribe the right strength of cream for the face or the body, and for how long, where clinically appropriate
  • Treat the itch so you can sleep
  • Help you find and avoid triggers, including patch testing at a clinic when needed
  • Refer you on for severe eczema that needs tablets or injections

Frequently asked questions

Can eczema be cured permanently?
No treatment cures it, but most people keep it under good control. Many children grow out of it. Daily moisturiser, quick treatment of flares and avoiding triggers mean fewer and milder flares.
Are steroid creams safe for eczema?
Used at the right strength, on the right part of the body, for a short time, yes. Problems come from strong creams used for months, especially on the face or in skin folds. The doctor tells you which cream, where and for how many days.
Is eczema an allergy to food?
Usually not. Food rarely causes eczema in adults. In some young children with severe eczema a food can make it worse, and the doctor advises before you cut anything out of the diet.
Who will I be speaking to?
A registered doctor from PingMeDoc's online panel. Skin and hair consults go first to our doctor who leads skin care (MBBS, with fellowships in aesthetic medicine and cosmetic dermatology) when she is available; otherwise a general physician takes the consult. There is no MD dermatologist on the panel yet: the doctor tells you when you need to see one in person. Every doctor's registration is checked before they join.
How much does the online consultation cost?
A chat consultation starts at ₹199. The exact fee is shown before you pay, and it includes 48 hours of follow-up questions in the same chat.
How quickly will a doctor reply?
The chat opens as soon as you pay. A doctor usually replies within 30 minutes, and the doctor can switch to a call or video if they need to see you.
