How Asthalin Inhaler works

Salbutamol is a short-acting beta-2 agonist (SABA) that relaxes smooth muscles in the airways. This widens the bronchial passages, improving airflow and quickly relieving wheeze, breathlessness and chest tightness.

How to take Asthalin Inhaler

For inhalation use only. Use as prescribed by the doctor; commonly 1-2 puffs when needed for relief; for prevention of exercise-induced symptoms, take 1-2 puffs 10-15 minutes before exercise. Shake well before use, exhale fully, inhale deeply while pressing the canister, hold breath ~10 seconds, then exhale; rinse mouth after use. Use a spacer if advised.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can cause a racing heart, marked tremor, headache and a fall in blood potassium. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Side effects of Asthalin Inhaler

Most side effects of Asthalin are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

• throat irritation

• nausea
• dizziness
• muscle cramps

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Warnings and precautions

Schedule H: use on prescription only. Not a substitute for regular controller therapy (e.g., inhaled corticosteroid) in persistent asthma. Overuse may worsen asthma control and can cause serious heart-related effects; seek medical advice if needing the inhaler more often than usual or if symptoms are not relieved. Use with caution in heart disease, hypertension, arrhythmias, hyperthyroidism, diabetes, and seizure disorders. Risk of hypokalaemia, especially with high doses or with diuretics/xanthines/corticosteroids. Paradoxical bronchospasm can occur—stop and seek medical help if wheeze worsens immediately after use.

Interactions with other medicines

Beta-blockers (e.g., propranolol) may reduce effect and may trigger bronchospasm, other sympathomimetics (additive effects), diuretics/corticosteroids/xanthines like theophylline (increased hypokalaemia risk), MAO inhibitors or tricyclic antidepressants (increased cardiovascular effects), digoxin (may reduce digoxin levels)

How to store Asthalin Inhaler

Store below 30°C. Protect from direct sunlight and heat. Do not freeze. Keep the canister away from flames/heat sources and do not puncture or burn even when empty. Keep out of reach of children.

ASTHAlin 100mcg Inhaler is used to relieve symptoms of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) such as coughing, wheezing and breathlessness. It must be taken regularly to help keep the airways open at all times. Your doctor may regularly monitor your blood potassium levels. Inform your doctor if you notice muscle twitching, weakness, or an irregular heartbeat. Inform your doctor if you have a history of heart diseases or if you experience headaches, or chest pain.
