Medically reviewed by Dr. Balaji Krishnan, MBBS · Updated August 2026
Avessa 250 mg Inhaler contains Formoterol (6mcg) + Fluticasone Propionate (250mcg).
Treatment of Asthma
Avessa 250 Inhaler is a combination of two medicines: Formoterol and Fluticasone Propionate. Formoterol is a long-acting bronchodilator that works by relaxing the muscles in the airways and widening them. Fluticasone Propionate is a steroid. It works by stopping the release of certain chemical messengers that cause inflammation (swelling) of the airways. Together, they make breathing easier.
Check the label for directions before use. Shake the inhaler. While you are breathing in from mouth, press down on the inhaler one time to release the medication and hold your breath for 10 seconds. Repeat until you have inhaled the number of puffs as suggested by the doctor.Afterwards, rinse your mouth thoroughly with water and spit it out.
Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.
If you miss a dose of Avessa 250 Inhaler, use it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.
Taking more Avessa than prescribed can be harmful. If you suspect an overdose, contact a doctor or go to the nearest emergency department at once, and carry the pack or strip with you. In India the emergency number is 112.
Most side effects of Avessa are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:
Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Tell your doctor or pharmacist about every medicine you take, including over-the-counter products, vitamins and herbal or ayurvedic preparations, before starting Avessa. Some combinations can change how Avessa works or raise the chance of side effects.
Store Avessa below 30°C in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep the pack tightly closed and out of the reach of children. Do not use it after the expiry date printed on the pack.
Avessa 250 Inhaler is a combination of two medicines that open the airways and make it easier to breathe. It does not work right away and should not be used to relieve sudden breathing problems. Use your rescue inhaler to control sudden difficulty in breathing. Dry mouth may occur as a side effect. Frequent mouth rinses, good oral hygiene, increased water intake, and sugarless candy may help. Gargle with warm water after each inhalation to avoid any fungal infections in your mouth and throat. Only minuscule amounts of Avessa 250 Inhaler may get absorbed into the bloodstream after inhalation. Hence, serious side effects are unlikely.
