Composition of Cefantral 1 g Vial

Cefantral 1 g Vial contains Cefotaxime. It belongs to the Cephalosporin class of medicines.

Uses of Cefantral 1 g Vial

  • Bacterial infection
  • Chest infection
  • Urinary infection
  • Ear
  • Throat infection
  • Typhoid

Benefits of Cefantral 1 g Vial

In Bacterial infection
Cefantral kills a wide range of bacteria by breaking down their cell walls, bringing the infection under control. Finishing the full course prevents it coming back.
In Chest infection
Cefantral treats bacterial infections of the chest, easing the cough, fever and breathlessness as the bacteria are cleared.
In Urinary infection
Cefantral clears the bacteria behind burning, frequency and pain on passing urine.
In Ear and throat infection
Cefantral treats bacterial infections of the ear, throat and sinuses, relieving the pain and fever they cause.
In Typhoid
Cefantral kills the typhoid bacteria in the blood and gut, bringing down the fever and preventing the complications of untreated typhoid.

How Cefantral 1 g Vial works

Cefotaxime kills the bacteria causing your infection by destroying the cell wall that holds them together.

How to take Cefantral 1 g Vial

This is given by a doctor or a nurse. Do not attempt to inject it yourself unless you have been trained and told to. Follow the dose and the duration written on your prescription.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

Take it as soon as you remember. If your next dose is almost due, skip the one you missed — never take two doses together to catch up.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can cause vomiting, severe loose motions and, rarely, fits. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Side effects of Cefantral 1 g Vial

Most side effects of Cefantral are mild and settle as the body gets used to the medicine. The ones reported most often are:

  • Loose motions
  • Nausea
  • Stomach pain
  • Rash
  • Thrush

Stop the medicine and get help at once for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

LiverCAUTION

Warnings and precautions

Finish the whole course even after you feel better — stopping early breeds resistant bacteria. Tell your doctor if you have ever had a severe reaction to penicillin; a small proportion of people react to both groups. Report severe or watery loose motions during or after the course rather than treating them yourself. Several medicines in this group are on Schedule H1 precisely because overuse drives antibiotic resistance. Take it only when a doctor has prescribed it for you.

Do not take Cefantral if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for anyone with a known allergy to cephalosporin antibiotics.

Interactions with other medicines

Antacids, iron and zinc reduce absorption — separate them by a couple of hours. Tell your doctor if you take a blood thinner.

How to store Cefantral 1 g Vial

Store as printed on the carton — some injections need refrigeration and must not be frozen. Keep out of the reach of children.

Quick tips for Cefantral 1 g Vial

  • Space the doses evenly and complete the course.
  • Keep the reconstituted syrup as the pharmacist instructed and discard it after the stated number of days.
