Cefoxim 500 mg Tablet contains Cefuroxime axetil 500 mg (as prodrug of cefuroxime) tablet. It belongs to the Second-generation cephalosporin (beta-lactam antibiotic) class of medicines.

How Cefoxim 500 mg Tablet works

Cefuroxime is a second-generation cephalosporin antibiotic. It kills bacteria by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis through binding to penicillin-binding proteins, leading to cell lysis.

How to take Cefoxim 500 mg Tablet

Tablet for oral use. Take exactly as prescribed by the doctor, usually after food to improve absorption. Swallow whole with water; do not crush or chew. Complete the full course even if you feel better.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

Take it as soon as you remember. If your next dose is almost due, skip the one you missed — never take two doses together to catch up.

Probenecid (increases cefuroxime levels), antacids/H2 blockers/PPIs (may reduce absorption), oral anticoagulants like warfarin (may increase bleeding risk/INR), oral contraceptives (may reduce effectiveness—use backup), aminoglycosides or loop diuretics (increased risk of kidney effects)
