Medically reviewed by Dr. Balaji Krishnan, MBBS · Updated August 2026
Cepodem Xp 50 DT contains Cefpodoxime Proxetil (50mg) + Clavulanic Acid (31.25mg). It belongs to the Third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic + beta-lactamase inhibitor class of medicines.
Cefpodoxime is a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic that kills bacteria by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis. Clavulanic acid is a beta-lactamase inhibitor that protects cefpodoxime from degradation by beta-lactamase producing bacteria, improving coverage against resistant organisms.
Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor.
Most side effects of Cepodem Xp are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:
Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

| Alcohol | Use with caution |
| Kidney | Kidney CAUTION |

Prescription-only antibiotic; do not use for viral infections. Use with caution in patients with history of allergy to cephalosporins/penicillins (risk of hypersensitivity). Dose adjustment may be needed in kidney impairment. Prolonged use may cause superinfection; seek medical help for severe/persistent diarrhoea (risk of C. difficile). Inform doctor if history of colitis, liver disease, or if taking anticoagulants. Stop and seek urgent care for facial swelling, breathing difficulty, or severe rash.
Warfarin/other anticoagulants (may increase bleeding risk/INR), probenecid (may increase cefpodoxime levels), antacids/H2 blockers/PPIs (may reduce cefpodoxime absorption if taken together), live bacterial vaccines such as oral typhoid (reduced efficacy), other nephrotoxic drugs (use caution)
Store below 25°C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep in original blister pack. Keep out of reach of children.
Your child must complete the entire course of antibiotics. Stopping too soon may cause the bacteria to multiply again, become resistant, or cause another infection. Give this medicine with food to avoid an upset stomach. Encourage your child to drink plenty of water in case diarrhea develops as a side effect. Conditions like common cold and flu are caused by viruses. Never use this medicine for such conditions. Only give Cepodem DT 50mg Tablet to your child for their current infection. Never save medicine for future illnesses. Stop this medicine and immediately report to your child’s doctor in case your child develops an itchy rash, facial swelling, or breathing difficulties while taking this medicine. Your doctor has prescribed Cepodem DT 50mg Tablet to cure your infection and improve your symptoms. Do not skip any doses and finish the full course of treatment even if you feel better. Stopping it early may make the infection harder to treat. Take it with food to avoid an upset stomach. Diarrhea may occur as a side effect but should stop when your course is complete. Inform your doctor if it does not stop or if you find blood in your stools. Avoid consuming alcohol while taking Cepodem DT 50mg Tablet as it may cause increased side effects. Discontinue Cepodem DT 50mg Tablet and inform your doctor immediately if you get a rash, itchy skin, swelling of face and mouth, or have difficulty in breathing.
