A substitute contains the same active ingredient (salt), in the same strength, as Ceroxim 500 mg Tablet. The medicine inside is the same — the brand name, manufacturer and price are what differ.
All medicines sold in India, branded or generic, must meet the quality standards set by the national drug regulator (CDSCO). A lower price does not mean lower quality.
Please confirm with your doctor or pharmacist before switching brands — they will check that the strength and form match your prescription.
Ceroxim 500 mg Tablet contains Cefuroxime (500mg). It belongs to the Cephalosporin class of medicines.
Treatment of Bacterial infections
Ceroxim 500 mg Tablet is an antibiotic. It kills bacteria by preventing them from forming the bacterial protective covering (cell wall) which is needed for them to survive.
Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Ceroxim 500mg Tablet may be taken with or without food.
Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.
If you miss a dose of Ceroxim 500mg Tablet, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.
An overdose of this medicine can cause vomiting, severe loose motions and, rarely, fits. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.
Most side effects of Ceroxim are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

Finish the whole course even after you feel better — stopping early breeds resistant bacteria. Tell your doctor if you have ever had a severe reaction to penicillin; a small proportion of people react to both groups. Report severe or watery loose motions during or after the course rather than treating them yourself. Several medicines in this group are on Schedule H1 precisely because overuse drives antibiotic resistance. Take it only when a doctor has prescribed it for you.
Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for anyone with a known allergy to cephalosporin antibiotics.
Antacids, iron and zinc reduce absorption — separate them by a couple of hours. Tell your doctor if you take a blood thinner.
Store below 30°C in the original pack, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep out of the reach of children.
Complete the full course of Ceroxim 500mg Tablet exactly as prescribed, even if you start feeling better. Stopping Ceroxim 500mg Tablet early may allow the infection to return and become harder to treat. Diarrhea may occur while taking Ceroxim 500mg Tablet; stay hydrated and consult your doctor if it becomes severe or persistent. Drink plenty of fluids if diarrhea occurs and watch for signs of dehydration. Stop taking Ceroxim 500mg Tablet and seek immediate medical help if you develop a rash, itching, swelling of the face or mouth, or difficulty breathing. Inform your doctor if you have previously had allergic reactions to penicillin or cephalosporin antibiotics. Consult your doctor if symptoms do not improve within a few days of starting treatment. Report severe stomach pain, persistent vomiting, or signs of dehydration to your doctor promptly. Notify your doctor if you develop symptoms such as itching or discharge that may indicate a yeast infection after antibiotic use.
