How Dexorange Sy works

Iron replenishes body iron stores and supports haemoglobin formation for oxygen transport. Folic acid and vitamin B12 are required for DNA synthesis and red blood cell production, helping correct megaloblastic components of anaemia.

How to take Dexorange Sy

Oral syrup; shake well before use and measure with a cup/spoon. Take as prescribed by the doctor; may be taken after food to reduce stomach upset. Avoid taking at the same time as milk/tea/coffee, antacids or calcium supplements; keep a 2-hour gap.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

Take it as soon as you remember. If your next dose is almost due, skip the one you missed — never take two doses together to catch up.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can cause vomiting and stomach pain, and with iron can be dangerous, especially in children. It is unlikely to cause serious harm, because the body passes surplus B vitamins out in the urine. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Side effects of Dexorange Sy

Most side effects of Dexorange Sy are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

• metallic taste
• dark/black stools
• teeth staining (with liquid iron)

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Safety advice for Dexorange Sy

Warnings and precautions

Do not use in iron overload states (e.g., haemochromatosis/haemosiderosis) or non–iron-deficiency anaemia unless advised. Keep out of reach of children—iron overdose can be fatal. Use with caution in peptic ulcer disease, inflammatory bowel disease or history of GI intolerance. If symptoms persist or there is blood in stools/vomiting, seek medical advice.

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack.

Interactions with other medicines

Antacids, calcium supplements and dairy reduce iron absorption; tetracyclines/quinolones (e.g., doxycycline, ciprofloxacin), levothyroxine, bisphosphonates, penicillamine—separate dosing by 2–4 hours. Methotrexate, trimethoprim, phenytoin may interact with folic acid. Chloramphenicol may blunt haematologic response.

How to store Dexorange Sy

Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place; protect from light and moisture. Keep the bottle tightly closed; do not freeze.
