Composition of Diamyk M2 Tablet

Diamyk M2 Tablet contains Glimepiride 2 mg + Metformin hydrochloride 500 mg (SR/ER). It belongs to the Sulfonylurea + Biguanide class of medicines.

Uses of Diamyk M2 Tablet

Type 2 diabetes mellitus (adult) to improve blood glucose control when diet and exercise alone are insufficient; used when combination therapy is required.

How Diamyk M2 Tablet works

Glimepiride (a sulfonylurea) increases insulin release from pancreatic beta cells and improves glucose utilization. Metformin (a biguanide) reduces hepatic glucose production and improves insulin sensitivity, lowering blood glucose without causing significant hypoglycaemia when used alone.

How to take Diamyk M2 Tablet

Oral tablet. Take exactly as prescribed, usually once or twice daily with meals to reduce stomach upset. Swallow whole (do not crush/chew if SR/ER). Monitor blood sugar regularly and follow diet/exercise advice.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

Take it as soon as you remember. If your next dose is almost due, skip the one you missed — never take two doses together to catch up.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can cause severe and prolonged low blood sugar, which may lead to fits or unconsciousness. It can cause a dangerous build-up of acid in the blood, with vomiting, severe weakness and laboured breathing. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Side effects of Diamyk M2 Tablet

Most side effects of Diamyk M2 are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

• Nausea
• diarrhoea
• abdominal pain
• loss of appetite
• metallic taste
• hypoglycaemia
• dizziness
• headache
• weight gain

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Warnings and precautions

Risk of hypoglycaemia (higher with missed meals, alcohol, strenuous exercise, elderly, renal/hepatic impairment). Metformin may rarely cause lactic acidosis—seek urgent care for rapid breathing, severe weakness, muscle pain, abdominal pain, or unusual sleepiness. Avoid in severe kidney disease; dose adjustment/monitoring required in renal impairment. Use caution in liver disease, heart failure, dehydration, and during severe infection or surgery. Temporarily stop metformin before/after iodinated contrast procedures as advised by doctor. Not for type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis.

Do not take Diamyk M2 if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for type 1 diabetes or for diabetic ketoacidosis. Not for people with severe kidney or liver disease. Not for people with severe kidney disease, severe liver disease, or an acute illness causing dehydration. Not for people who have had diabetic ketoacidosis.

Interactions with other medicines

Alcohol (increases risk of hypoglycaemia/lactic acidosis),iodinated contrast media,insulin/other antidiabetics (additive hypoglycaemia),beta-blockers (mask hypoglycaemia symptoms),ACE inhibitors (may enhance glucose-lowering),diuretics and corticosteroids (may raise glucose),fluoroquinolones (glucose disturbances),azole antifungals/clarithromycin (may increase sulfonylurea effect),rifampicin (may reduce effect),NSAIDs and salicylates (may increase hypoglycaemia),cimetidine (may increase metformin levels)

How to store Diamyk M2 Tablet

Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place. Protect from moisture and direct sunlight. Keep in original blister pack and out of reach of children.

Expert advice for Diamyk M2 Tablet

Take it shortly before a meal, and eat that meal. Check your sugar as often as your doctor has asked, especially when your routine changes. Take it with or just after food to reduce stomach upset. Keep taking it even when your sugar readings look normal — that is the medicine working. Continue your diet and physical activity; this medicine works alongside them, not instead of them.
