Gliben Vb 2/.2 Tablet contains Glimepiride 2 mg + Voglibose 0.2 mg (tablet). It belongs to the Sulfonylurea + Alpha-glucosidase inhibitor class of medicines.

Type 2 diabetes mellitus (as add-on to diet and exercise) when blood sugar is not adequately controlled with single-agent therapy; helps control post-meal and fasting glucose.

How Gliben Vb 2/.2 Tablet works

Glimepiride is a sulfonylurea that stimulates the pancreas to release insulin and improves insulin utilization, lowering blood glucose. Voglibose is an alpha-glucosidase inhibitor that delays carbohydrate digestion/absorption in the intestine, reducing post-meal blood sugar spikes.

How to take Gliben Vb 2/.2 Tablet

Oral tablet. Take exactly as prescribed, usually once daily with the first main meal (or as directed). Voglibose-containing combinations are generally taken with the first bite of food; do not skip meals to reduce risk of hypoglycaemia. Monitor blood glucose regularly.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

Take the missed dose of Gliben Vb 2/.2 as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one and carry on with the usual schedule. Do not take two doses together to make up for a missed dose.

If you take too much

Taking more Gliben Vb 2/.2 than prescribed can be harmful. If you suspect an overdose, contact a doctor or go to the nearest emergency department at once, and carry the pack or strip with you. In India the emergency number is 112.

Side effects of Gliben Vb 2/.2 Tablet

Most side effects of Gliben Vb 2/.2 are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

• Hypoglycaemia
• dizziness
• headache
• nausea
• abdominal pain
• flatulence
• diarrhoea
• bloating
• weight gain

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Warnings and precautions

Risk of low blood sugar (higher if meals are skipped, with alcohol, strenuous exercise, or with other antidiabetics). Use with caution in kidney or liver impairment, elderly, malnourished, and those with adrenal/pituitary insufficiency. Not for type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis. If severe hypoglycaemia occurs, take fast-acting glucose; with voglibose, treat lows with glucose/dextrose (not sucrose) as sucrose absorption is delayed. Stop and seek care for severe abdominal symptoms, jaundice, or allergic reactions.

Interactions with other medicines

Other antidiabetics (insulin, metformin, DPP-4 inhibitors) may increase hypoglycaemia risk; beta-blockers may mask hypoglycaemia symptoms; corticosteroids, thiazide diuretics, thyroid hormones, sympathomimetics may raise glucose; ACE inhibitors/MAO inhibitors may enhance glucose-lowering; warfarin (possible effect changes); fluoroquinolones may cause dysglycaemia; alcohol increases hypoglycaemia risk.

Store below 25°C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep in original strip and out of reach of children.
