Composition of Glidum MF 1 Tablet

Glidum MF 1 Tablet contains Glimepiride (1mg) + Metformin (1000mg). It belongs to the Sulfonylurea + Biguanide class of medicines.

How Glidum MF 1 Tablet works

How to take Glidum MF 1 Tablet

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

If you miss a dose of Glidum MF 1mg/1000mg Tablet SR, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can cause severe and prolonged low blood sugar, which may lead to fits or unconsciousness. It can cause a dangerous build-up of acid in the blood, with vomiting, severe weakness and laboured breathing. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Side effects of Glidum MF 1 Tablet

Most side effects of Glidum MF are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

• Hypoglycaemia (low blood sugar)

• diarrhoea
• abdominal discomfort
• loss of appetite
• headache
• dizziness
• taste disturbance

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Warnings and precautions

Risk of hypoglycaemia (especially with missed meals, alcohol, heavy exercise); monitor blood glucose regularly. Metformin may rarely cause lactic acidosis—risk increases with kidney disease, severe dehydration, severe infection, shock, or excessive alcohol. Not recommended in severe renal impairment; kidney function should be assessed before and during therapy. Inform doctor before surgery or iodinated contrast imaging—metformin may need to be stopped temporarily. Use caution in liver disease and in elderly patients.

Do not take Glidum MF if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for type 1 diabetes or for diabetic ketoacidosis. Not for people with severe kidney or liver disease. Not for people with severe kidney disease, severe liver disease, or an acute illness causing dehydration. Not for people who have had diabetic ketoacidosis.

Interactions with other medicines

Alcohol (increases risk of hypoglycaemia and lactic acidosis), insulin/other antidiabetics (additive hypoglycaemia), beta-blockers (mask hypoglycaemia symptoms), corticosteroids and thiazide diuretics (raise blood sugar), ACE inhibitors (may increase hypoglycaemic effect), fluoroquinolones (glucose disturbances), cimetidine and other drugs affecting kidney tubular secretion (increase metformin levels), iodinated contrast media (risk of kidney injury/lactic acidosis)

Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place away from moisture and direct light. Keep out of reach of children.

Expert advice for Glidum MF 1 Tablet

You should continue to exercise regularly, eat a healthy diet, and take your other diabetes medicines along with Glidum MF 1mg/1000mg Tablet SR. Take it with food to lower your chance of having an upset stomach. Monitor your blood sugar level regularly while you are taking this medicine. It can cause hypoglycemia (low blood sugar level) when used with other antidiabetic medicines, alcohol or if you delay or miss a meal. Inform your doctor about your diabetes treatment if you are due to have surgery under a general anesthetic. Tell your doctor immediately if you experience any deep or rapid breathing or if you have persistent nausea, vomiting, and stomach pain as Glidum MF 1mg/1000mg Tablet SR may cause a rare but serious condition called lactic acidosis, which is an excess of lactic acid in the blood. Your doctor may check your liver function regularly. Inform your doctor if you develop symptoms such as abdominal pain, loss of appetite, or yellowing of the eyes or skin (jaundice).
