Composition of Glimison Mp 1 Tablet

Glimison Mp 1 Tablet contains Glimepiride 1 mg + Metformin hydrochloride (sustained/extended release) 500 mg + Pioglitazone 15 mg. It belongs to the Sulfonylurea + Biguanide + Thiazolidinedione (TZD) combination class of medicines.

How Glimison Mp 1 Tablet works

Glimepiride (a sulfonylurea) increases insulin release from the pancreas. Metformin reduces glucose production in the liver and improves insulin sensitivity. Pioglitazone (a thiazolidinedione) improves insulin sensitivity in muscle and fat by activating PPAR-γ, helping reduce blood glucose.

How to take Glimison Mp 1 Tablet

Oral tablet; take exactly as prescribed. Usually taken once daily with the first main meal (or as directed). Swallow whole (do not crush/chew if SR/ER); take with food to reduce stomach upset. Monitor blood glucose regularly.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

Take it as soon as you remember. If your next dose is almost due, skip the one you missed — never take two doses together to catch up.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can cause severe and prolonged low blood sugar, which may lead to fits or unconsciousness. It can cause a dangerous build-up of acid in the blood, with vomiting, severe weakness and laboured breathing. It may cause low blood sugar and marked stomach upset. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Side effects of Glimison Mp 1 Tablet

Most side effects of Glimison Mp are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

• Hypoglycaemia
• nausea
• vomiting
• diarrhoea
• abdominal pain
• loss of appetite
• headache
• dizziness
• weight gain
• peripheral oedema (swelling)
• upper respiratory tract infection

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Safety advice for Glimison Mp 1 Tablet

Warnings and precautions

Risk of hypoglycaemia (higher with missed meals, alcohol, strenuous exercise); carry glucose. Metformin may rarely cause lactic acidosis—risk increases with kidney disease, dehydration, severe infection, alcoholism, heart/respiratory failure; stop and seek care for rapid breathing, severe weakness, abdominal pain. Pioglitazone can cause fluid retention/worsen heart failure; avoid in NYHA class III/IV and use caution in cardiac disease; monitor for weight gain/edema. Monitor kidney function and liver enzymes; stop if jaundice or significant LFT elevation. Long-term metformin may reduce vitamin B12—consider periodic monitoring. Use caution in elderly and in those with renal/hepatic impairment. Temporarily stop metformin around iodinated contrast/surgery as advised by doctor.

Do not take Glimison Mp if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for type 1 diabetes or for diabetic ketoacidosis. Not for people with severe kidney or liver disease. Not for people with severe kidney disease, severe liver disease, or an acute illness causing dehydration. Not for people who have had diabetic ketoacidosis. Not for people with heart failure, active bladder cancer or unexplained blood in the urine.

Interactions with other medicines

Alcohol (increases hypoglycaemia and lactic acidosis risk), insulin or other antidiabetics (additive hypoglycaemia/edema), beta-blockers (mask hypoglycaemia), corticosteroids and thiazide diuretics (raise glucose), rifampicin (reduces pioglitazone effect), gemfibrozil (increases pioglitazone levels), iodinated contrast media (lactic acidosis risk with metformin), cimetidine (raises metformin levels), ACE inhibitors/salicylates (may enhance hypoglycaemia)

How to store Glimison Mp 1 Tablet

Store below 25°C in a dry place, protected from moisture and light. Keep in original blister pack. Keep out of reach of children.

Expert advice for Glimison Mp 1 Tablet

Take it shortly before a meal, and eat that meal. Check your sugar as often as your doctor has asked, especially when your routine changes. Take it with or just after food to reduce stomach upset. Keep taking it even when your sugar readings look normal — that is the medicine working. Continue your diet and physical activity; this medicine works alongside them, not instead of them. Take it with the first mouthful of your meal so it can act on that meal. Expect some wind in the first weeks; it usually settles.
