Do not take Glucobay M if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for type 1 diabetes or for diabetic ketoacidosis. Not for people with heart failure, active bladder cancer or unexplained blood in the urine. Not for people with severe kidney disease, severe liver disease, or an acute illness causing dehydration. Not for people who have had diabetic ketoacidosis.

Interactions with other medicines

Low blood sugar is more likely when combined with insulin or a sulfonylurea. Tell your doctor about water tablets, steroids, and any contrast dye scan. Alcohol increases the risk of the rare acid build-up and should be limited.

You have been prescribed this combination medicine as it can control blood sugar better than metformin alone. You should continue to exercise regularly, eat a healthy diet, and take your other diabetes medicines along with Glucobay M 25 Tablet. Take it with food to lower your chance of having an upset stomach. It can cause hypoglycemia (low blood sugar level) when used with other antidiabetic medicines, alcohol, or if you delay or miss a meal. Always carry some sugary food or fruit juice if you experience hypoglycemia symptoms such as cold sweats, cool, pale skin, tremors, and anxiety. Monitor your blood sugar level regularly while taking this medicine. Tell your doctor immediately if you experience any deep or rapid breathing, persistent nausea, vomiting, or stomach pain, as Glucobay M 25 Tablet may cause a rare but serious condition called lactic acidosis, which is an excess of lactic acid in the blood. Let your doctor know if you feel excessively thirsty, pass urine more frequently, or get tired easily. These are signs of very high blood sugar levels, and your treatment may need to be adjusted.
