Glycomet Trio 1 Forte contains Glimepiride 2 mg + Metformin hydrochloride (sustained release) 1000 mg + Voglibose 0.3 mg tablets. It belongs to the Sulfonylurea + Biguanide + Alpha-glucosidase inhibitor class of medicines.

How Glycomet Trio 1 Forte works

Metformin reduces glucose production in the liver and improves insulin sensitivity. Glimepiride increases insulin release from the pancreas. Voglibose slows carbohydrate absorption from the intestine by inhibiting alpha-glucosidase, reducing post-meal glucose spikes.

How to take Glycomet Trio 1 Forte

Oral tablet; take exactly as prescribed, usually once daily with/after the main meal (often dinner) to reduce stomach upset and hypoglycaemia risk. Swallow whole; do not crush or chew (SR component).

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

Take it as soon as you remember. If your next dose is almost due, skip the one you missed — never take two doses together to catch up.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can cause severe and prolonged low blood sugar, which may lead to fits or unconsciousness. It can cause a dangerous build-up of acid in the blood, with vomiting, severe weakness and laboured breathing. It may cause low blood sugar and marked stomach upset. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Most side effects of Glycomet Trio are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

Warnings and precautions

Risk of hypoglycaemia (higher with missed meals, alcohol, strenuous exercise, elderly); monitor blood glucose. Metformin may rarely cause lactic acidosis—risk increases with kidney impairment, dehydration, severe infection, alcohol use, heart/respiratory failure; assess renal function before and during therapy. Avoid in severe renal or hepatic impairment; use caution in heart failure. Temporarily stop metformin before/after iodinated contrast or major surgery as advised by doctor. Seek help for symptoms of low sugar (sweating, tremor, confusion) or lactic acidosis (deep rapid breathing, severe weakness, abdominal pain).

Do not take Glycomet Trio if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for type 1 diabetes or for diabetic ketoacidosis. Not for people with severe kidney or liver disease. Not for people with severe kidney disease, severe liver disease, or an acute illness causing dehydration. Not for people who have had diabetic ketoacidosis. Not for people with heart failure, active bladder cancer or unexplained blood in the urine.

Interactions with other medicines

Alcohol (increases hypoglycaemia/lactic acidosis risk), iodinated contrast media, insulin/other antidiabetics (additive hypoglycaemia), sulfonylureas/repaglinide (hypoglycaemia), beta-blockers (mask hypoglycaemia), corticosteroids/thyroid hormones/diuretics (raise glucose), ACE inhibitors (may increase hypoglycaemia), cimetidine and other OCT2/MATE inhibitors (increase metformin levels), NSAIDs and nephrotoxic drugs (worsen kidney function)

Store at room temperature (below 25°C), protected from moisture and light. Keep in original strip and out of reach of children.

Expert advice for Glycomet Trio 1 Forte

Take it shortly before a meal, and eat that meal. Check your sugar as often as your doctor has asked, especially when your routine changes. Take it with or just after food to reduce stomach upset. Keep taking it even when your sugar readings look normal — that is the medicine working. Continue your diet and physical activity; this medicine works alongside them, not instead of them. Take it with the first mouthful of your meal so it can act on that meal. Expect some wind in the first weeks; it usually settles.
