Homilan D3 Tablet contains Cholecalciferol (Vitamin D3) (strength unknown). It belongs to the Vitamin D analogue (fat-soluble vitamin) class of medicines.

How Homilan D3 Tablet works

Cholecalciferol (vitamin D3) is converted in the body to active vitamin D metabolites that increase absorption of calcium and phosphate from the gut. It helps maintain normal blood calcium levels and supports bone mineralisation and muscle function.

How to take Homilan D3 Tablet

Take as advised by your doctor. Swallow the tablet with water, preferably with or after food (fat-containing meal improves absorption). Do not exceed the prescribed dose; vitamin D dosing may be daily/weekly/monthly depending on deficiency.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

Take it as soon as you remember. If your next dose is almost due, skip the one you missed — never take two doses together to catch up.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can raise blood calcium dangerously, causing thirst, frequent urination, vomiting, confusion and kidney damage. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Side effects of Homilan D3 Tablet

Most side effects of Homilan D3 are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

• constipation
• abdominal pain
• loss of appetite
• headache
• weakness
• increased thirst
• increased urination

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Warnings and precautions

Use with caution in kidney disease, history of kidney stones, hypercalcaemia, hypervitaminosis D, sarcoidosis or other granulomatous diseases. Avoid taking additional vitamin D or calcium supplements unless prescribed. Overdose may cause hypercalcaemia and kidney damage; seek medical help if severe nausea, confusion, excessive thirst/urination occur.

Do not take Homilan D3 if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for people with a high blood calcium level, or with certain kidney stones.

Interactions with other medicines

Thiazide diuretics (e.g., hydrochlorothiazide) may increase risk of hypercalcaemia, digoxin and other cardiac glycosides (arrhythmia risk with high calcium), anticonvulsants (phenytoin/phenobarbital/carbamazepine) may reduce effect, rifampicin may reduce effect, corticosteroids may reduce effect, cholestyramine/orlistat may reduce absorption, magnesium-containing antacids (risk of hypermagnesaemia in renal impairment)

How to store Homilan D3 Tablet

Store at room temperature (below 25°C), protect from light and moisture, keep in original pack, keep out of reach of children.

Take calcium with food, and split the day's total if you take a large amount. Sunlight helps your body make its own vitamin D. Have your level rechecked as your doctor advises rather than continuing high doses indefinitely.
