How Insugen-50/50 Refil works

This is a premixed human insulin containing a rapid-acting soluble fraction and an intermediate-acting NPH fraction. It lowers blood glucose by increasing peripheral glucose uptake (muscle/fat) and reducing hepatic glucose production, providing both meal-time and basal insulin coverage.

How to take Insugen-50/50 Refil

For subcutaneous use only via compatible reusable insulin pen for 3 mL cartridges (refill). Dose and timing as prescribed; commonly given 1–2 times daily about 30 minutes before meals. Gently roll/tilt cartridge to resuspend until uniformly cloudy; do not use if clumpy or separated. Rotate injection sites; monitor blood glucose regularly.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

If you forget to take Insugen-R 100IU/ml Refil, your blood sugar may get too high (hyperglycemia). Take it as soon as you remember. If it's time for your next dose then skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to compensate for the missed one.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can cause severe low blood sugar, leading to fits or unconsciousness — this is a medical emergency. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Side effects of Insugen-50/50 Refil

Most side effects of Insugen-50/50 Refil are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

Warnings and precautions

Risk of severe hypoglycaemia—carry glucose and recognize symptoms; avoid driving/operating machinery if low sugar risk. Do not use during hypoglycaemia. Adjust dose with changes in diet, exercise, illness, stress, or renal/hepatic impairment. Rotate sites to reduce lipodystrophy. Use only as prescribed; do not share pens/needles. Seek urgent help for signs of allergy (wheezing, swelling, generalized rash) or recurrent severe lows.

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not to be used during an episode of low blood sugar.

Interactions with other medicines

Other antidiabetics, alcohol, ACE inhibitors/ARBs, salicylates, MAO inhibitors may increase hypoglycaemic effect; corticosteroids, thiazide diuretics, sympathomimetics, thyroid hormones, oral contraceptives may reduce insulin effect; beta-blockers can mask hypoglycaemia symptoms; atypical antipsychotics can affect glucose; pioglitazone with insulin may increase risk of fluid retention/heart failure.

How to store Insugen-50/50 Refil

Store unopened cartridges refrigerated at 2–8°C; do not freeze. Keep away from direct heat/light. Once in use, keep at room temperature (as per pack insert, typically below 25–30°C) and use within the in-use period; keep cartridge in pen with cap on.

Expert advice for Insugen-50/50 Refil

Take it 20 to 30 minutes before a meal. Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar level) is a common side-effect. Learn how to identify and manage its symptoms (sweating, rapid heartbeat, weakness, blurry vision, headache) and teach your family as well. Injection below the skin of the abdomen results in faster absorption than other injection sites. Injection sites must be rotated to prevent hard lumps from developing at one site. Opened vials/cartridges are good at room temperature for up to 4 weeks, while unopened vials must be placed in the refrigerator (2°C–8°C).
