Composition of Momate S Ointment

Momate S Ointment contains Mometasone (0.1% w/w) + Salicylic Acid (5% w/w). It belongs to the Topical corticosteroid (glucocorticoid) class of medicines.

How Momate S Ointment works

Mometasone is a topical corticosteroid that reduces inflammation, redness and itching in the skin. It works by suppressing the release of inflammatory mediators and decreasing immune overactivity locally.

How to take Momate S Ointment

For external use only. Apply a thin layer to the affected area once daily or as directed by the doctor; rub in gently. Use the smallest amount needed; avoid eyes, mouth and broken skin. Do not cover with airtight dressings unless prescribed; wash hands after application.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

If you miss a dose of MOMate S Ointment, apply it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can suppress the body's own steroid production when it is used for a long time over large areas, especially in children. It can cause severe irritation when far too much cream is applied; an oral retinoid taken in excess can cause headache, vomiting and liver injury. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Side effects of Momate S Ointment

Most side effects of Momate S are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Warnings and precautions

Use only on the area prescribed and for the shortest duration needed. Avoid use on face/groin/underarms unless advised; prolonged use may cause skin thinning and systemic steroid effects, especially under occlusion or on large areas. Do not use in untreated skin infections (bacterial, fungal, viral) or on open wounds. Stop and consult a doctor if severe irritation, worsening, or signs of infection occur. Use with caution in children; higher risk of systemic absorption. Not for ophthalmic use.

Do not take Momate S if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for untreated bacterial, fungal or viral skin infections. Not for use in or around the eyes. Oral retinoids are absolutely contraindicated in pregnancy and in anyone who might become pregnant without a pregnancy prevention programme. Topical retinoids are avoided in pregnancy.

Interactions with other medicines

Generally minimal with topical use; increased risk of systemic corticosteroid effects if used with other corticosteroids (topical/oral/inhaled) or under occlusion over large areas. Avoid combining with other irritating topical agents on the same area unless advised.

How to store Momate S Ointment

Store at room temperature (below 25°C), away from heat and direct light. Do not freeze. Keep the tube tightly closed and out of reach of children.

MOMate S Ointment is used to treat the redness, swelling, itching, and discomfort of various skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis. Apply to the affected areas as a thin film two or three times daily, or as advised by your doctor. Don't cover the area being treated with airtight dressings such as bandages unless directed by a doctor, as this may increase the risk of side effects. After you have applied MOMate S Ointment, remember to wash your hands (unless your hands are the treated area). Use a mild moisturizer regularly to overcome skin dryness during the course of treatment. Consult your doctor if your skin condition has not improved after 2 weeks of treatment.
