Composition of Montepex-L

Montepex-L contains Montelukast 10 mg + Levocetirizine 5 mg (tablet). It belongs to the Levocetirizine (H1 antihistamine) + Montelukast (Leukotriene receptor antagonist) class of medicines.

How Montepex-L works

Montelukast is a leukotriene receptor antagonist that blocks inflammatory chemicals (leukotrienes) responsible for allergy symptoms and bronchoconstriction. Levocetirizine is a second-generation antihistamine that blocks H1 receptors to reduce sneezing, itching, watery eyes and runny nose.

How to take Montepex-L

Tablet: take as prescribed, commonly 1 tablet once daily in the evening or at night. Can be taken with or without food; swallow whole with water. Not for sudden asthma attack relief.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

Take the missed dose of Montepex-L as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one and carry on with the usual schedule. Do not take two doses together to make up for a missed dose.

If you take too much

Taking more Montepex-L than prescribed can be harmful. If you suspect an overdose, contact a doctor or go to the nearest emergency department at once, and carry the pack or strip with you. In India the emergency number is 112.

Side effects of Montepex-L

Most side effects of Montepex-L are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

• headache
• fatigue
• dizziness
• abdominal pain
• nausea

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Warnings and precautions

May cause sleepiness/dizziness—avoid driving or operating machinery if affected. Montelukast has rare neuropsychiatric effects (mood changes, agitation, abnormal dreams, depression, suicidal thoughts); stop and seek medical help if these occur. Use with caution in severe liver disease and in kidney impairment (levocetirizine dose adjustment may be needed). Not a rescue medicine for acute asthma/bronchospasm. Use in children only on doctor advice and appropriate strength.

Interactions with other medicines

Alcohol and other CNS depressants (increased drowsiness), sedatives/sleep medicines, opioid painkillers; enzyme inducers like rifampicin, phenytoin, phenobarbital may reduce montelukast effect; theophylline (generally no major interaction but monitor).

How to store Montepex-L

Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place. Protect from moisture and direct light. Keep out of reach of children.
