How Sitahenz-E 25 Tablet works

Sitahenz-E 25 Tablet is a combination of two medicines, empagliflozin and sitagliptin, which help control blood sugar levels in people with type 2 diabetes. Empagliflozin works by helping the kidneys remove extra sugar from the body through urine. Sitagliptin helps the body release more insulin when blood sugar is high and reduces the amount of sugar made by the liver. By working in different ways, these two medicines complement each other and provide better blood sugar control than either medicine alone.

How to take Sitahenz-E 25 Tablet

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Sitahenz-E 25 Tablet may be taken with or without food.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

If you miss a dose of Sitahenz-E 25 Tablet, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can cause dehydration and a fall in blood pressure. It may cause low blood sugar, particularly if you also take other diabetes medicines. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Most side effects of Sitahenz-E are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Safety advice for Sitahenz-E 25 Tablet

Warnings and precautions

Drink enough water, especially in hot weather or if you have loose motions — this medicine makes you pass more urine. Seek urgent care for nausea with vomiting, stomach pain and deep rapid breathing, even if your sugar reading is normal. Report any pain, tenderness, redness or swelling in the genital area or perineum immediately — this is rare but needs same-day attention. Genital thrush is common; keep the area clean and dry and tell your doctor if it recurs. Stop and see a doctor urgently if you get severe, persistent abdominal pain that spreads to your back, with or without vomiting. Tell your doctor if you develop severe or disabling joint pain. Blisters or peeling of the skin should be reported promptly.

Do not take Sitahenz-E if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for type 1 diabetes or for diabetic ketoacidosis. Not for people with severe kidney disease.

Interactions with other medicines

Water tablets increase the risk of dehydration and low blood pressure when taken with this. Low blood sugar is more likely when combined with insulin or a sulfonylurea. Low blood sugar is more likely when this is combined with a sulfonylurea or insulin; your doctor may lower that dose.

How to store Sitahenz-E 25 Tablet

Store below 30°C in the original pack, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep out of the reach of children.

Expert advice for Sitahenz-E 25 Tablet

Let your doctor know if you are taking any other diabetes medicines with Sitahenz-E 25 Tablet, especially insulin or sulfonylureas, to avoid the risk of hypoglycemia (low blood sugar). Do not stop taking Sitahenz-E 25 Tablet suddenly without consulting your doctor, even if you feel well or your blood sugar improves. If you plan to undergo surgery or any major procedure, inform your doctor in advance, as temporary discontinuation may be advised. Sitahenz-E 25 Tablet is not suitable for people with type 1 diabetes or the treatment of diabetic ketoacidosis.
