Medically reviewed by Dr. Balaji Krishnan, MBBS · Updated August 2026
Solvin Cough Syrup contains Bromhexine hydrochloride 4 mg/5 ml. It belongs to the Mucolytic (Bromhexine derivative) class of medicines.
Bromhexine is a mucolytic/expectorant that thins and loosens thick bronchial secretions by depolymerizing mucopolysaccharide fibers. This reduces sputum viscosity and improves mucociliary clearance, making it easier to cough out phlegm.
Oral syrup. Take as prescribed by the doctor; measure with a calibrated cup/spoon. Can be taken with or without food; drink plenty of fluids to help loosen mucus. Do not exceed the recommended dose.
Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.
Take the missed dose of Solvin Cough as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one and carry on with the usual schedule. Do not take two doses together to make up for a missed dose.
Taking more Solvin Cough than prescribed can be harmful. If you suspect an overdose, contact a doctor or go to the nearest emergency department at once, and carry the pack or strip with you. In India the emergency number is 112.
Most side effects of Solvin Cough are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:
Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Use with caution in patients with gastric ulcer/peptic ulcer disease, severe liver or kidney impairment, and asthma (may increase bronchial secretions). Stop and seek medical help if allergic reactions (rash, swelling, breathing difficulty) occur. Not meant for dry/irritative cough without mucus unless advised. For children, use only under medical advice; avoid self-medication in very young children.
Antitussives (e.g., dextromethorphan, codeine) may hinder expectoration; antibiotics (e.g., amoxicillin, erythromycin, cefuroxime) may show increased penetration into bronchial secretions; other mucolytics/expectorants (additive effect).
Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place away from direct light. Keep bottle tightly closed. Keep out of reach of children.
