How Telbrit Nb 40/5 mg works

Telmisartan is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) that relaxes blood vessels by blocking angiotensin II–mediated vasoconstriction and aldosterone effects. Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker (dihydropyridine) that widens blood vessels by inhibiting calcium entry into vascular smooth muscle. Together they lower blood pressure effectively.

How to take Telbrit Nb 40/5 mg

Tablet; take exactly as prescribed, usually once daily at the same time each day. Can be taken with or without food; swallow with water. Do not stop suddenly without medical advice; monitor BP regularly.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

Take it as soon as you remember. If your next dose is almost due, skip the one you missed — never take two doses together to catch up.

An overdose of this medicine can cause a dangerously slow heartbeat, a severe fall in blood pressure, wheezing and fits. It can cause a severe fall in blood pressure, with dizziness, fainting and a fast or slow pulse. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Warnings and precautions

Not recommended in pregnancy; stop and consult doctor if pregnancy occurs. Caution in heart failure/aortic stenosis; swelling from amlodipine may occur.

Do not take Telbrit Nb 40/5 mg if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for people with a very slow heart rate, certain heart block disorders, or uncontrolled heart failure. Generally avoided in severe asthma. Must not be used in pregnancy — it can seriously harm the developing baby. Not for people with narrowing of both kidney arteries, or a history of swelling of the face and throat caused by this group of medicines.

Interactions with other medicines

Potassium supplements/salt substitutes, potassium-sparing diuretics (e.g., spironolactone, eplerenone, amiloride), other antihypertensives/diuretics (additive BP lowering), NSAIDs (e.g., ibuprofen, diclofenac) may reduce effect and affect kidneys, lithium (increased lithium toxicity), ACE inhibitors/aliskiren (increased risk of kidney issues/hyperkalemia—avoid in diabetes with aliskiren), grapefruit juice (may increase amlodipine levels in some patients)
