Composition of Vildasom 50 Tablet

Vildasom 50 Tablet contains Vildagliptin 50 mg. It belongs to the DPP-4 inhibitor (gliptin) class of medicines.

How Vildasom 50 Tablet works

Vildagliptin is a DPP-4 inhibitor that increases incretin hormones (GLP-1 and GIP). This enhances glucose-dependent insulin release and reduces glucagon secretion, helping lower blood sugar with a low risk of hypoglycaemia when used alone.

How to take Vildasom 50 Tablet

Take as prescribed by the physician. Tablet is usually taken once or twice daily, with or without food, at the same time each day. Swallow whole with water; do not stop or change dose without medical advice.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

Take it as soon as you remember. If your next dose is almost due, skip the one you missed — never take two doses together to catch up.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine may cause low blood sugar, particularly if you also take other diabetes medicines. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Side effects of Vildasom 50 Tablet

Most side effects of Vildasom are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

• Headache
• dizziness
• nausea
• abdominal pain
• diarrhoea
• constipation
• nasopharyngitis
• upper respiratory tract infection
• tremor (more likely with combination therapy)
• peripheral oedema

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Warnings and precautions

Not recommended for type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis. Use with caution in patients with liver disease; periodic liver function tests may be advised (discontinue if persistent elevated transaminases or jaundice). Use caution in renal impairment (dose adjustment/alternative may be needed as per clinician). Risk of pancreatitis (seek medical help for severe persistent abdominal pain). Hypoglycaemia risk increases when combined with sulfonylureas/insulin. Inform doctor if you have heart failure history or severe infections/surgery.

Do not take Vildasom if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for type 1 diabetes or for diabetic ketoacidosis.

Interactions with other medicines

Insulin, sulfonylureas (e.g., glimepiride) (increased hypoglycaemia risk), ACE inhibitors (rare angioedema risk may increase), corticosteroids and thiazide diuretics (may raise glucose and reduce effect), other antidiabetics (additive glucose-lowering)

How to store Vildasom 50 Tablet

Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place away from moisture and direct light. Keep in original blister pack and out of reach of children.
