Voglibose is an alpha‑glucosidase inhibitor that delays breakdown and absorption of carbohydrates in the intestine, reducing post‑meal glucose spikes. Metformin decreases hepatic glucose production and improves insulin sensitivity, lowering fasting and overall blood glucose.

How to take Volga M 0.2/500 mg

Temporarily stop metformin around iodinated contrast studies and major surgery as advised by doctor. Monitor kidney function and vitamin B12 with long-term use. Voglibose may cause gastrointestinal discomfort; hypoglycaemia can occur when used with insulin/sulfonylureas.

Do not take Volga M 0.2/500 mg if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for people with severe kidney disease, severe liver disease, or an acute illness causing dehydration. Not for people who have had diabetic ketoacidosis. Not for type 1 diabetes or for diabetic ketoacidosis. Not for people with heart failure, active bladder cancer or unexplained blood in the urine.

Interactions with other medicines

Alcohol (increases lactic acidosis risk), iodinated contrast media, carbonic anhydrase inhibitors (e.g., topiramate/acetazolamide), cimetidine, diuretics, corticosteroids, thyroid hormones, sympathomimetics, antipsychotics, insulin and sulfonylureas (increased hypoglycaemia risk)
