How Xone O Tablet works

Xone O 200mg/200mg Tablet is a combination of two antibiotics: Cefpodoxime Proxetil and Ofloxacin. Cefpodoxime Proxetil works by preventing the formation of the bacterial protective covering which is essential for the survival of the bacteria in the human body. Ofloxacin works by preventing the bacteria from reproducing and repairing themselves. Together, they treat your infection effectively.

Side effects of Xone O Tablet

Most side effects of Xone O are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Warnings and precautions

Finish the whole course even after you feel better — stopping early breeds resistant bacteria. Tell your doctor if you have ever had a severe reaction to penicillin; a small proportion of people react to both groups. Report severe or watery loose motions during or after the course rather than treating them yourself. Several medicines in this group are on Schedule H1 precisely because overuse drives antibiotic resistance. Take it only when a doctor has prescribed it for you. Stop and contact your doctor at once if you develop pain, swelling or tenderness in a tendon — the Achilles tendon at the back of the ankle in particular. This group can damage tendons, and the risk is higher in older people and with steroids. Report any new numbness, tingling or burning in the hands or feet promptly. Tell your doctor about any change in mood, confusion or agitation. Avoid strong sunlight and use sun protection — this group makes the skin burn more easily. Finish the whole course; this group is heavily associated with antibiotic resistance and should be used only when prescribed.

Do not take Xone O if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for anyone with a known allergy to cephalosporin antibiotics. Generally avoided in children and adolescents, in pregnancy, and in anyone with a history of tendon problems with these antibiotics.

Interactions with other medicines

Antacids, iron and zinc reduce absorption — separate them by a couple of hours. Tell your doctor if you take a blood thinner. Antacids, iron, zinc, calcium and milk markedly reduce absorption — separate them by at least two hours. Tell your doctor if you take steroids, a blood thinner or a medicine for heart rhythm.

Store below 30°C in the original pack, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep out of the reach of children.

You have been prescribed Xone O 200mg/200mg Tablet to cure your infection and improve your symptoms. Do not skip any doses and finish the full course of treatment even if you feel better. Stopping it early may make the infection to come back and harder to treat. Take it with food to avoid an upset stomach. Diarrhea may occur as a side effect but should stop when your course is complete. Inform your doctor if it does not stop or if you find blood in your stools. Discontinue Xone O 200mg/200mg Tablet and inform your doctor immediately if you get a rash, itchy skin, swelling of face and mouth, or have difficulty in breathing. Notify your doctor if you feel pain in your tendons, numbness, or tingling sensations. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to conceive or breastfeeding.
