Ofloxacin 200 mg + Ornidazole 500 mg (in 100 mL IV infusion)
Treatment of mixed bacterial and protozoal infections such as acute infectious diarrhoea, dysentery, gastroenteritis, intra-abdominal and gynecological infections when susceptible organisms are suspected/confirmed.
Ofloxacin is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic that inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase/topoisomerase IV, stopping bacterial DNA replication. Ornidazole is a nitroimidazole that is reduced inside anaerobic/protozoal cells to reactive metabolites that damage DNA, killing the organisms.
For intravenous infusion only. Administer as a slow IV infusion over 60–90 minutes (do not give as IV bolus). Dose and duration as prescribed by the doctor; ensure adequate hydration and complete the full course.
Common side effects of ZANOCIN OZ IV may include:
Prescription-only; use only under medical supervision. Fluoroquinolones may cause tendonitis/tendon rupture, peripheral neuropathy, CNS effects (seizures, confusion), QT prolongation and worsening of myasthenia gravis—stop and seek care if tendon pain, numbness/tingling or severe dizziness occurs. Risk of C. difficile–associated diarrhoea; avoid unnecessary use. Use with caution in elderly, renal impairment (dose adjustment may be needed), history of seizures, heart rhythm disorders, and liver disease. Avoid excessive sunlight/UV (photosensitivity).
