Zenoxidil 5 % Gel contains Minoxidil 5% w/w topical gel. It belongs to the Potassium channel opener / topical vasodilator (hair growth stimulant) class of medicines.
Treatment of androgenetic alopecia (pattern hair loss) in men; helps reduce hair fall and promote hair regrowth. Use only if hair loss is hereditary/pattern-type.
Minoxidil is a topical vasodilator that prolongs the anagen (growth) phase of hair follicles and increases follicle size. This can improve hair density and thickness over time with regular use.
For external use only. Apply a thin layer to clean, dry scalp in the affected area as directed by a doctor (commonly 1 mL twice daily for 5% minoxidil). Wash hands after application; allow to dry completely before using hair products, wearing caps/helmets, or going to bed. Do not apply on irritated/broken skin; avoid contact with eyes, face, and mucous membranes.
Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.
Take the missed dose of Zenoxidil as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one and carry on with the usual schedule. Do not take two doses together to make up for a missed dose.
Taking more Zenoxidil than prescribed can be harmful. If you suspect an overdose, contact a doctor or go to the nearest emergency department at once, and carry the pack or strip with you. In India the emergency number is 112.
Most side effects of Zenoxidil are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:
Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.
| Pregnancy | Not recommended (consult doctor) |
|---|---|
| Alcohol | No known interaction (topical); avoid alcohol on scalp as it may worsen irritation |
| Habit forming | No |
Stop use and seek medical advice if chest pain, fast/irregular heartbeat, fainting, severe dizziness, shortness of breath, or swelling occurs. Not recommended in pregnancy/breastfeeding unless advised by a doctor. Avoid use on inflamed, infected, sunburned, or broken scalp. Use caution in patients with heart disease, low blood pressure, or those using antihypertensives. Hair shedding may increase initially (usually temporary). Continuous use is required to maintain results; benefits may take 3–6 months.
Other topical scalp products/irritants (retinoids, strong corticosteroids, keratolytics) may increase absorption/irritation; antihypertensive medicines and other vasodilators may increase risk of low blood pressure; topical minoxidil absorption may be increased with occlusion or damaged skin.
Store at room temperature (below 25°C), protected from heat, light and moisture. Keep container tightly closed. Keep out of reach of children.
