Medically reviewed by Dr. Balaji Krishnan, MBBS · Updated August 2026
Zoryl M2 Forte contains Glimepiride 2 mg + Metformin hydrochloride 1000 mg (sustained release). It belongs to the Sulfonylurea + Biguanide (Metformin SR combination) class of medicines.
Type 2 diabetes mellitus (in adults) when blood sugar is not adequately controlled with diet/exercise and single-agent therapy; helps control fasting and post-meal glucose.
Glimepiride (a sulfonylurea) stimulates the pancreas to release insulin and improves insulin action. Metformin reduces glucose production in the liver and improves insulin sensitivity, decreasing glucose absorption and improving peripheral uptake. Together they provide better glycaemic control than either alone.
Take by mouth as prescribed, usually once daily with the first main meal (or as advised). Swallow the tablet whole; do not crush or chew (SR). Regularly monitor blood glucose; follow diet and exercise advice.
Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.
Take the missed dose of Zoryl M2 Forte as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one and carry on with the usual schedule. Do not take two doses together to make up for a missed dose.
Taking more Zoryl M2 Forte than prescribed can be harmful. If you suspect an overdose, contact a doctor or go to the nearest emergency department at once, and carry the pack or strip with you. In India the emergency number is 112.
Most side effects of Zoryl M2 Forte are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:
Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.
| Pregnancy | Not recommended; consult doctor (insulin is generally preferred in pregnancy). |

Risk of hypoglycaemia (higher with missed meals, strenuous exercise, alcohol, elderly). Metformin can rarely cause lactic acidosis—risk increases with kidney impairment, severe infection, dehydration, shock, or hypoxia; avoid if severe renal dysfunction. Check kidney function before and during therapy; use caution in liver disease and heart failure. Stop temporarily before iodinated contrast imaging and major surgery as advised by doctor. Long-term metformin may reduce vitamin B12 levels; monitor if anaemia/neuropathy.
Alcohol (increases hypoglycaemia/lactic acidosis risk), insulin/other antidiabetics (additive hypoglycaemia), beta-blockers (mask hypoglycaemia), corticosteroids/thiazide diuretics (raise glucose), ACE inhibitors (may enhance glucose-lowering), fluoroquinolones (glucose disturbances), rifampicin (reduces effect), azole antifungals/clarithromycin (increase sulfonylurea effect), NSAIDs/salicylates (increase hypoglycaemia risk), iodinated contrast media (lactic acidosis risk)
Store below 25°C in a dry place, protected from moisture and light. Keep out of reach of children.
Medicines with the same active ingredient (Glimepiride 2 mg + Metformin hydrochloride 1000 mg (sustained release)). Ask your doctor or pharmacist before switching brands.
