Glimepiride 2 mg + Metformin hydrochloride 1000 mg (sustained release)
Type 2 diabetes mellitus (in adults) when blood sugar is not adequately controlled with diet/exercise and single-agent therapy; helps control fasting and post-meal glucose.
Glimepiride (a sulfonylurea) stimulates the pancreas to release insulin and improves insulin action. Metformin reduces glucose production in the liver and improves insulin sensitivity, decreasing glucose absorption and improving peripheral uptake. Together they provide better glycaemic control than either alone.
Take by mouth as prescribed, usually once daily with the first main meal (or as advised). Swallow the tablet whole; do not crush or chew (SR). Regularly monitor blood glucose; follow diet and exercise advice.
Common side effects of ZORYL M2 FORTE may include:
Risk of hypoglycaemia (higher with missed meals, strenuous exercise, alcohol, elderly). Metformin can rarely cause lactic acidosis—risk increases with kidney impairment, severe infection, dehydration, shock, or hypoxia; avoid if severe renal dysfunction. Check kidney function before and during therapy; use caution in liver disease and heart failure. Stop temporarily before iodinated contrast imaging and major surgery as advised by doctor. Long-term metformin may reduce vitamin B12 levels; monitor if anaemia/neuropathy.
