Composition of Startglim-M2 Forte Tablet

Startglim-M2 Forte Tablet contains Metformin hydrochloride 1000 mg (sustained/extended release) + Glimepiride 2 mg. It belongs to the Biguanide + Sulfonylurea class of medicines.

How Startglim-M2 Forte Tablet works

Metformin reduces glucose production in the liver and improves the body’s sensitivity to insulin, lowering insulin resistance. Glimepiride stimulates the pancreas to release more insulin, helping reduce blood glucose levels, especially after meals.

How to take Startglim-M2 Forte Tablet

Take by mouth as prescribed by a doctor, usually once daily with the main meal (often dinner/breakfast depending on regimen). Swallow whole with water; do not crush or chew if it is SR/ER. Follow diet/exercise plan and monitor blood glucose regularly.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

Take it as soon as you remember. If your next dose is almost due, skip the one you missed — never take two doses together to catch up.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can cause a dangerous build-up of acid in the blood, with vomiting, severe weakness and laboured breathing. It can cause severe and prolonged low blood sugar, which may lead to fits or unconsciousness. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Most side effects of Startglim-M2 Forte are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

Warnings and precautions

Risk of hypoglycaemia (higher with missed meals, alcohol, strenuous exercise, elderly); carry glucose/sugar. Metformin can rarely cause lactic acidosis—risk increases with kidney impairment, dehydration, severe infection, heart/respiratory failure, or heavy alcohol use. Avoid/use with caution in renal or hepatic impairment; kidney function monitoring recommended. Temporarily stop metformin before/after iodinated contrast imaging and major surgery as advised by doctor. Long-term metformin may cause vitamin B12 deficiency; consider periodic monitoring.

Do not take Startglim-M2 Forte if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for people with severe kidney disease, severe liver disease, or an acute illness causing dehydration. Not for people who have had diabetic ketoacidosis. Not for type 1 diabetes or for diabetic ketoacidosis. Not for people with severe kidney or liver disease.

Interactions with other medicines

Alcohol (increases risk of hypoglycaemia/lactic acidosis), iodinated contrast media, insulin/other antidiabetics (additive hypoglycaemia), beta-blockers (may mask hypoglycaemia symptoms), corticosteroids and thiazide/loop diuretics (may raise glucose), ACE inhibitors (may enhance hypoglycaemia), rifampicin (may reduce glimepiride effect), azole antifungals/macrolides/fluoroquinolones (may alter glucose control), cimetidine (may increase metformin levels)

How to store Startglim-M2 Forte Tablet

Store below 25°C in a dry place, protected from moisture and light. Keep out of reach of children.

Expert advice for Startglim-M2 Forte Tablet

Take it with or just after food to reduce stomach upset. Keep taking it even when your sugar readings look normal — that is the medicine working. Continue your diet and physical activity; this medicine works alongside them, not instead of them. Take it shortly before a meal, and eat that meal. Check your sugar as often as your doctor has asked, especially when your routine changes.
