A substitute contains the same active ingredient (salt), in the same strength, as Zoryl-Md 1/500 mg Tablet. The medicine inside is the same — the brand name, manufacturer and price are what differ.
All medicines sold in India, branded or generic, must meet the quality standards set by the national drug regulator (CDSCO). A lower price does not mean lower quality.
Please confirm with your doctor or pharmacist before switching brands — they will check that the strength and form match your prescription.
Zoryl-Md 1/500 mg Tablet contains Glimepiride 1 mg + Metformin 500 mg (as Metformin hydrochloride). It belongs to the Sulfonylurea + Biguanide (antidiabetic combination) class of medicines.
Treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults when diet and exercise alone or monotherapy is insufficient; helps control high blood sugar.
Glimepiride is a sulfonylurea that stimulates the pancreas to release insulin and improves insulin utilization. Metformin reduces glucose production in the liver and improves insulin sensitivity, lowering blood glucose levels.
Take by mouth exactly as prescribed, usually once daily with breakfast or the first main meal to reduce stomach upset. Swallow the tablet as directed; do not skip meals to avoid low blood sugar. Dose is individualized based on blood glucose and tolerance.
Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.
Take the missed dose of Zoryl-Md 1/500 mg as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one and carry on with the usual schedule. Do not take two doses together to make up for a missed dose.
Taking more Zoryl-Md 1/500 mg than prescribed can be harmful. If you suspect an overdose, contact a doctor or go to the nearest emergency department at once, and carry the pack or strip with you. In India the emergency number is 112.
Most side effects of Zoryl-Md 1/500 mg are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:
Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.
| Pregnancy | Not recommended; consult doctor (insulin is generally preferred in pregnancy). |
|---|---|
| Alcohol | Avoid (increases risk of hypoglycaemia and metformin-associated lactic acidosis). |
| Habit forming | No |
Risk of hypoglycaemia (higher with missed meals, excess exercise, alcohol, or other antidiabetics); monitor blood glucose regularly. Metformin may rarely cause lactic acidosis—seek urgent care for rapid breathing, severe weakness, unusual muscle pain, abdominal pain, or drowsiness; risk increases with kidney/liver disease, dehydration, severe infection, heart failure, or heavy alcohol use. Use with caution/avoid in significant renal impairment; kidney function should be checked before and during therapy. Withhold metformin temporarily around iodinated contrast studies and major surgery as advised by a doctor. Not for type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis.
Alcohol, insulin and other antidiabetics (risk of hypoglycaemia), beta-blockers (may mask hypoglycaemia), ACE inhibitors (may enhance glucose-lowering), corticosteroids and thiazide diuretics (may raise glucose), rifampicin (may reduce effect), fluconazole and other CYP2C9 inhibitors (may increase glimepiride effect), iodinated contrast media (lactic acidosis risk), cimetidine (may increase metformin levels)
Store below 25°C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
