Composition of Glimison M1 Tablet

Glimison M1 Tablet contains Glimepiride 1 mg + Metformin 500 mg (as Metformin Hydrochloride). It belongs to the Sulfonylurea + Biguanide combination class of medicines.

Uses of Glimison M1 Tablet

Management of type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults when diet and exercise alone or single-drug therapy is inadequate; helps control high blood sugar and reduces risk of diabetes-related complications.

How Glimison M1 Tablet works

Glimepiride (a sulfonylurea) increases insulin release from the pancreas and improves the body’s response to insulin. Metformin (a biguanide) decreases glucose production in the liver and reduces intestinal glucose absorption while improving insulin sensitivity, leading to better blood glucose control.

How to take Glimison M1 Tablet

Oral tablet. Take exactly as prescribed, usually once daily with breakfast or the first main meal (to reduce stomach upset and risk of low sugar). Swallow with water; do not crush/chew unless advised. Monitor blood glucose regularly; maintain diet and exercise as advised.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

Take it as soon as you remember. If your next dose is almost due, skip the one you missed — never take two doses together to catch up.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can cause severe and prolonged low blood sugar, which may lead to fits or unconsciousness. It can cause a dangerous build-up of acid in the blood, with vomiting, severe weakness and laboured breathing. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Side effects of Glimison M1 Tablet

Most side effects of Glimison M1 are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

• Hypoglycaemia (low blood sugar)
• nausea
• diarrhoea
• abdominal pain
• loss of appetite
• metallic taste
• headache
• dizziness
• weight gain (glimepiride)
• rash

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Safety advice for Glimison M1 Tablet

Warnings and precautions

Risk of hypoglycaemia especially with missed meals, excess exercise, alcohol intake, or with other antidiabetic medicines—carry glucose/sugar. Metformin may rarely cause lactic acidosis (medical emergency); risk increases with kidney impairment, dehydration, severe infection, heart/respiratory failure, or heavy alcohol use—avoid if significant renal dysfunction. Periodically monitor kidney function, liver function, and vitamin B12 with long-term use. Temporarily stop metformin before/after iodinated contrast studies and major surgery as advised by doctor. Use caution in elderly and in patients with irregular eating patterns.

Do not take Glimison M1 if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for type 1 diabetes or for diabetic ketoacidosis. Not for people with severe kidney or liver disease. Not for people with severe kidney disease, severe liver disease, or an acute illness causing dehydration. Not for people who have had diabetic ketoacidosis.

Interactions with other medicines

Alcohol (increases risk of hypoglycaemia and lactic acidosis),insulin/other antidiabetics (additive hypoglycaemia),beta-blockers (may mask hypoglycaemia symptoms),corticosteroids and thiazide/loop diuretics (may raise blood sugar),ACE inhibitors (may enhance glucose-lowering),fluoroquinolones (may cause hypo/hyperglycaemia),iodinated contrast media (lactic acidosis risk with metformin),cimetidine (may increase metformin levels)

How to store Glimison M1 Tablet

Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place. Protect from moisture and direct light. Keep in original blister pack and out of reach of children.

Expert advice for Glimison M1 Tablet

Take it shortly before a meal, and eat that meal. Check your sugar as often as your doctor has asked, especially when your routine changes. Take it with or just after food to reduce stomach upset. Keep taking it even when your sugar readings look normal — that is the medicine working. Continue your diet and physical activity; this medicine works alongside them, not instead of them.
