Composition of Zovir 200 mg Tablet

Zovir 200 mg Tablet contains Acyclovir 200 mg. It belongs to the Nucleoside analogue (anti-herpes antiviral) class of medicines.

Uses of Zovir 200 mg Tablet

• Treatment of herpes simplex infections (genital herpes
• cold sores)
• treatment of initial and recurrent episodes; treatment of varicella (chickenpox) and herpes zoster (shingles); suppressive therapy to reduce recurrence of genital herpes (as prescribed).

How Zovir 200 mg Tablet works

Acyclovir is an antiviral that is converted inside virus-infected cells to an active form that inhibits viral DNA polymerase. This stops viral DNA replication and limits spread of herpes viruses, reducing severity and duration of outbreaks.

How to take Zovir 200 mg Tablet

Tablet for oral use. Take exactly as prescribed; start as early as possible after symptoms begin. Can be taken with or without food; take with plenty of water. Maintain adequate hydration during therapy; do not skip doses and complete the course as advised.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

Take the missed dose of Zovir as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one and carry on with the usual schedule. Do not take two doses together to make up for a missed dose.

If you take too much

Taking more Zovir than prescribed can be harmful. If you suspect an overdose, contact a doctor or go to the nearest emergency department at once, and carry the pack or strip with you. In India the emergency number is 112.

Side effects of Zovir 200 mg Tablet

Most side effects of Zovir are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

• Nausea
• vomiting
• diarrhoea
• abdominal pain
• headache
• dizziness
• fatigue
• rash
• itching

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Warnings and precautions

Use with caution in kidney disease/elderly; dose adjustment may be required. Maintain good hydration to reduce risk of kidney-related side effects. Seek medical help for allergic reactions, severe skin rash, confusion/tremors (rare, more likely with renal impairment). Not a cure for herpes; can still transmit—practice safe sex and avoid contact during active lesions.

Interactions with other medicines

Probenecid (may increase acyclovir levels), other nephrotoxic drugs like aminoglycosides/amphotericin B/ciclosporin/tacrolimus (increased kidney risk), mycophenolate mofetil (may increase levels of both), cimetidine (may increase acyclovir levels)

How to store Zovir 200 mg Tablet

Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place. Protect from moisture and direct light. Keep out of reach of children.
