Treatment of high cholesterol (hypercholesterolaemia) and mixed dyslipidaemia; lowering LDL-C and triglycerides and increasing HDL-C; prevention of cardiovascular events (heart attack, stroke) in high-risk patients along with diet and lifestyle changes.

Rosuvastatin is a statin that inhibits HMG‑CoA reductase, the key enzyme for cholesterol synthesis in the liver. This increases hepatic LDL-receptor activity, leading to greater removal of LDL cholesterol from the blood and reduced triglycerides.

Tablet for oral use. Take once daily at the same time each day, with or without food, as prescribed. Swallow whole with water; continue cholesterol-lowering diet and exercise. Do not stop without medical advice.

Headache, muscle pain (myalgia), abdominal pain, nausea, constipation, weakness, dizziness, increased liver enzymes

High dose (40 mg) has higher risk of muscle injury (myopathy/rhabdomyolysis); seek care for unexplained muscle pain/weakness, fever or dark urine. Use with caution in liver disease, heavy alcohol use, hypothyroidism, kidney impairment, elderly, or history of statin-related muscle problems. Monitor liver enzymes and lipid profile as advised. Contraindicated in active liver disease; generally avoid in severe renal impairment unless specialist advises. Stop and consult doctor if pregnancy occurs.

Cyclosporine (contraindicated/avoid), gemfibrozil and other fibrates (↑ myopathy risk), niacin (↑ myopathy risk), protease inhibitors (e.g., lopinavir/ritonavir, atazanavir/ritonavir) (↑ rosuvastatin levels), warfarin (may ↑ INR—monitor), ezetimibe (↑ muscle risk), antacids containing aluminium/magnesium (reduce absorption—separate by ~2 hours)

Store below 25°C in a dry place, protected from moisture and light. Keep in original blister pack and out of reach of children.
