Composition of Acitrom 1 Tablet

Acitrom 1 Tablet contains Acenocoumarol 1 mg. It belongs to the Vitamin K antagonist (coumarin anticoagulant) class of medicines.

• Prevention and treatment of blood clots (thromboembolism) such as deep vein thrombosis (DVT)
• pulmonary embolism (PE)
• prevention of stroke/systemic embolism in certain patients (e.g.
• atrial fibrillation)
• prevention of clotting after heart valve replacement

How Acitrom 1 Tablet works

Acenocoumarol is a vitamin K antagonist anticoagulant. It inhibits vitamin K–dependent clotting factors (II, VII, IX, X), reducing the blood’s ability to form clots. Dose effect is monitored using INR and adjusted accordingly.

How to take Acitrom 1 Tablet

Take exactly as prescribed by the doctor at the same time each day, with or without food. Dose is individualized based on INR; do not change dose or stop abruptly without medical advice. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as remembered on the same day; do not double the next dose.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

Take it as soon as you remember. If your next dose is almost due, skip the one you missed — never take two doses together to catch up.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can cause serious and difficult-to-control bleeding. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Side effects of Acitrom 1 Tablet

Most side effects of Acitrom are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

• Bleeding
• easy bruising
• nosebleed
• gum bleeding
• blood in urine
• black/tarry stools
• nausea
• vomiting
• diarrhea
• abdominal pain
• rash
• hair loss

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Warnings and precautions

High risk of bleeding—seek urgent care for unusual bleeding, severe headache, weakness, vomiting blood, black stools, or blood in urine. Requires regular INR monitoring and dose adjustments. Avoid sudden changes in dietary vitamin K intake (green leafy vegetables); keep intake consistent. Inform doctor before any surgery/dental procedures. Use caution in liver disease, kidney disease, uncontrolled hypertension, history of ulcers/bleeding, elderly, and patients prone to falls. Many medicines and herbal products can alter INR. Not recommended in pregnancy (especially first trimester) due to fetal risk; use only if specifically advised.

Do not take Acitrom if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for people with active bleeding, a bleeding disorder, or a recent bleed into the brain.

Interactions with other medicines

NSAIDs/aspirin and other antiplatelets (increased bleeding), heparin and other anticoagulants (increased bleeding), antibiotics (e.g., metronidazole, macrolides, fluoroquinolones, co-trimoxazole) and antifungals (e.g., fluconazole) (increase INR), amiodarone (increase INR), anticonvulsants like carbamazepine/phenytoin (may reduce or alter effect), rifampicin (reduces effect), thyroid hormones (increase effect), alcohol (affects INR), herbal products like ginkgo/garlic/St John’s wort (bleeding risk/INR changes)

How to store Acitrom 1 Tablet

Store at room temperature (below 25°C), protected from moisture and light. Keep in original pack and out of reach of children.

Expert advice for Acitrom 1 Tablet

Carry a card or note saying which blood thinner you take. Take it at the same time every day; a missed dose leaves you less protected. Use paracetamol rather than an anti-inflammatory for ordinary aches, unless your doctor says otherwise.
